2024 Alachua County Small Farmer Grant Available

Press release from Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – Small farmers and ranchers have a grant opportunity through the County Commission this summer. The Commission is funding a mini-grant to Alachua County-based farms and ranches that earn between $1,000 and $250,000 annually. Funding is for capital and equipment expenditures that will positively impact these operations’ income. Applications must be in the County Manager’s Office by 5 p.m. on June 28, 2024.

The total grant request must not exceed $5,000. Only one application per farm or ranch is permitted. The total funding available for this grant is approximately $100,000. To reduce inequity in marginalized communities, small farms and ranches owned by black, woman, indigenous, and persons of color are prioritized.

Those wanting to apply for the grant must download the application. Please submit the application to Alachua County’s Office of Sustainability, Equity, and Economic Development Strategies. Applications may be submitted by email to SMAACA@alachuacounty.us, by mail or in-person to:

  • “To reduce inequity in marginalized communities, small farms and ranches owned by black, woman, indigenous, and persons of color are prioritized.”
    The grant isn’t based on need but rather the color of your skin or gender, (kind of a paradox since the progressives supposedly can’t distinguish between the two). Didn’t Martin Luther King Jr. say something to the effect of, “I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
    Leave it to the Alachua County Commission to promote favoritism and racism under the guise of fairness for all.

  • So guess there’s not any poor white farmers that need help. Complete BS

  • The grant applications go through the Alachua County’s Office of Sustainability, Equity, and Economic Development Strategies.

    Equity = Favoritism

    The grant isn’t intended to help small farmers in need. It’s intended to help favored small farmers in need.

    Our tax money is being used once again to pick winners and losers. “Equity” as applied by progressives is in fact not truly equitable.

    It’s divisive.

    • What’s becoming clear is that the voters have picked losers. Over and over again.
      It’s true what they say, you can’t fix stupid.

  • Each applicant gets vetted and scrutinized and must prove what they spent the money on. For $5000 max.

    Same county that gave $30 million to a bankrupt con man with no vetting.

    Only the county could create a department with opposite goals. Sustainability means preserve that tree on the county logo. Development means cut down that tree and pave a parking lot.
