The City Commission is elected by the citizens of Gainesville, who own GRU and will be responsible for any debts. That’s how it’s supposed to work in a democracy, an idea and cornerstone of our nation which you have opposed here many times as long as you get your way. By the way, GRU had the same credit rating as FPL when taken over by the state GOP which with our governor is the most meddling in local politics in Florida ever. While the city crowd keeps crowing that “the ratepayers” have voted, that’s not true. 40% of the ratepayers had no say. The court will recognize that, and it will recognize the state’s preeminence over the city.
Single Member Districts:
I polled this three weeks ago. Mass confusion reigned because the county used non-compliant language. State statute is clear. 2 years ago, the statute compliant language was used.
Las night, more than half of Trump voters in Alachua County voted to return to at-large.
The will of the voters was expressed 2 years ago, when the proper language was used. The county sowed confusion by flipping the language and putting it right back on.
The 1st DCA will uphold the legitimate language and vote from 2022. Have you seen that court? It’s the most conservative in the state.
Single Member Districts remains the standard, now, in Alachua County and the 1st DCA won’t change that.
If the county wants to try again, they will have to put it on a 3rd time, with the language specified in Florida Statute.

Funny how you revere some laws but not others… the reason the judge ruled against the initiative was that the ballot language did not comply with the law. This was an error by the County’s attorneys, and it invalidated the vote.

Yeah, of course we were mesmerized by Trump’s detailed policy speeches and practical promises like building a wall with Mexican money – whoops, sorry, that was last time! – abolish the income tax, balance the budget, and eliminate the national debt by raising prices on imported goods by 20%.
Given the excellent shape Trump left the economy in last time – GDP -2.21% , unemployment -9%, inflation headed up to 9% in 2021 – and the terrible job Biden did – GDP up to 5.8% in 2021 and this year about 2.8%, unemployment down by 2021 to 5.35% and currently at 4.1%, and inflation down to 6.5% in 2022 and currently at 2.21% – not to mention increase in manufacturing under Biden, which went down under Trump, and the world record oil production by the US under Biden, and the “safe landing” of the economy under Biden, when virtually every economists said we would have a serious recession after Covid, it’s no wonder you want Trump back (WTF?).
And of course on immigration, not only did Trump kill this years immigration bill primarily written by true conservative Sen Lankford of Ok which was endorsed by the Border Agents union for purely political reasons, but he also ended the Obama policy of focusing immigration enforcement on criminals, which increased the number of rapist and murdering immigrants who entered here by more than Biden or Obama. So yeah, I get why you are excited to have Trump back in office.

“Po” in the context I’m using the term here is simply a reference to those who’d rather collect food stamps and government subsidies than work for their living, and then get all upset when a president is elected that will dismantle their subsidies, and thier entitlement programs.
Similar to the recent Homeless Hood Rats infesting our community, I’ve also observed a lot of “Po”.
The “Po” however differ from the Hood Rats in a very determining and crucial way, The “po” have an established bungalow in the areas listed above. The “Po” also have more empathy for the Homeless Hood Rats, as our Alachua County local election results have proven.
So yea, we have a new House, and new President, and a new Senate.
