23-year-old Gainesville man killed in Waldo Road head-on crash
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 23-year-old Gainesville man was killed yesterday in a head-on crash on NE Waldo Road in the Fairbanks area.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, two pickup trucks were traveling in opposite directions on Waldo Road yesterday at about 5:59 p.m. when one truck crossed the center median south of NE 55th Terrace, hitting the truck coming in the opposite direction. The release, which did not identify which pickup truck crossed the median, states that this is an ongoing investigation and that more information will be released as it becomes available.
One pickup truck was driven by a 23-year-old Gainesville man, who suffered fatal injuries in the crash; he was reportedly wearing a seatbelt. The second pickup truck was driven by a 43-year-old man from Cordova, Maryland, and his passengers included a 44-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy, both from Cordova. All three were reportedly wearing seatbelts or secured in a child restraint and suffered minor injuries.
TV20 had an article stating another head on crash very similar to this one occurred on Archer road as well involving three people and a pickup truck.
It’s the same crash. Their article says “State Road 24,” which is both Archer Road and Waldo Road; apparently somebody didn’t see the “Waldo Road” designation on the FHP report and placed it in Archer.
Even though the TV20 article showed a map on Waldo Road where it happened.
