25-time convicted felon arrested with firearm and cocaine after foot chase

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Kenyatta Jermaine Patterson, Sr., 45, was arrested yesterday and charged with three felonies and two misdemeanors after allegedly running from an officer and dropping a revolver and cocaine along his path.

At about 2:21 p.m. on Tuesday, a Gainesville Police Department Officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple stop sign violations; Patterson was reportedly the driver and sole occupant of the car. The vehicle turned into a residential driveway in the 1000 block of NW 6th Avenue, drove to the rear of the home, and Patterson reportedly got out of the vehicle, carrying a backpack. The officer reported that Patterson looked at him, ran, and climbed a chain link fence. The officer reportedly grabbed his ankle, and Patterson reportedly began taking items from the backpack, including a small white box and paperwork with Patterson’s name on it.

The officer wrote that he lost his grip, and Patterson continued over the fence; the officer lost sight of him. The officer reportedly found a .22 revolver on the ground next to the paperwork, loaded with three live rounds and two spent cartridges.

Patterson was reportedly arrested in the 1200 block of NW 4th Avenue. Officers retraced his path and reportedly found the white box, which contained a small amount of crack cocaine. Officers also reportedly found about 14 grams of crack cocaine scattered near the box. The report notes that this amount of cocaine is consistent with street-level drug sales; users typically purchase an amount under one gram and consume the drugs immediately. The report also notes that Patterson had no paraphernalia for consuming cocaine.

Patterson has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, driving without a valid license as a habitual offender, illegally carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting an officer without violence. Patterson has 25 felony convictions (two violent) and 23 misdemeanor convictions (two violent). He has served four state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2013. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $85,000.

  • Well hopefully he stays in prison this time because they’ve given you 2 many chances 2 prove you can act right ☺️☺️ cmon bruh at some point you gotta realize it’s you… not them

    • Because this guy is not technically homeless, I will not be able to add him to our list of ambassadors of Gainesville. As the back-Ward Mayor of Gainesville I will be reviewing my ambassador program and see if there is a way to open up the program to convicted violent felons, as well as to the homeless. I feel by allowing convicted violent felons and homeless it would be more equitable. Why should a 62k a year job only be for the homeless, when we could include convicted violent felons as well!!!!

        • Well Steve you bring up a very good point. So as the back-Ward Mayor of Gainesville I will be requesting a tax increase on the commoners that I rule over and will double the salaries of our homeless and violent felon ambassadors.

  • I believe this is Kenyatta Jermaine Patterson, Jr.’s daddy, who was also just arrested the other day. These bad apples need to be thrown away and not allowed to spoil the bushel.
If you’ve ever asked for a reason for castration…this is it. Maybe they could share daddy/son time if they did it at the same time.

  • Is he the father of the guy who was recently arrested for attempted murder?

  • Matthew 7:17-23 New International Version (NIV)
Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

Sounds as if this has been addressed before.

    • Because this is Alachua county.
Like many uncivilized felons before him, he has benefited from his share of sweetheart deals from prosecutors here.
Plus he has a city and county commission here who pander to his kind.

  • Patterson again you can’t make this stuff. 48 convictions, four prison terms and he is still allowed to breath in free society. Of course he is stupid enough to carry papers with his name on them with his drugs. Part of it is that at his helicopter blades are severely bent and out of alignment. Well at least he can have Father/Son special time in Jail.

  • He’s 45 and Jr is 27. He propagated one at 18 and there’s no telling how many others like him are running around loose. With daddy’s like him it’s no wonder mommas don’t want their baby daddy hanging around.
He was released in 2013 from his recent stint. Somehow I find it highly doubtful he just decided to commit another crime.
Best keep him in prison; until something miraculous happens, society won’t have to worry about him breeding more like him.

  • I cannot imagine what it is like to be him – what a day in his life is like. Yeah, he’s a POS – I am too – only in a different way; MUCH less of an outward drag on society, to be sure. I made a mistake once and was in a cell with a guy like that; to hear his story and what it is like to try and survive with absolutely NO resources is a trip. Go ahead and say what you will about how he could better himself and turn things around – and you will, but the truth is on “the outside” his best bet is to hustle for a living or get three hots and a cot. He has no choices. Just being real.

    • You’re right, he had choices – many. Unfortunately he made 48 bad ones.
Congrats to you for learning from your one mistake.

      • That’s just it…I was charged with one absolutely ridiculous third-degree felony and now I am a marked man. No one wants to hire a felon – even one with a college degree. Oh sure, one can secure a “job” at a hot dog stand, but support a family? Think of this guy; it’s a slippery slope.

    • Guys like him often find a less-attractive woman with a job, a car, and a place to live.

      • Isn’t there some gun violence task force thing they are spending taxpayer $ on? They can start by automatic 5 years in prison if you’re a felon and get caught with a gun. No court case, straight to jail!

      • Yep, exactly! She lives off of Food Stamps and hand-outs from him from his drug money, then when he gets penned up she resorts to stealing from Walmart. Obviously, he has more than one baby mamma on the hook so there is a big hole to fill when he is gone.

    • It seems he has choices, but zero interest in doing something different. Why take a minimum wage gig in the hot sun when you can hustle drugs for better money?

  • 25 people, 25 felony convictions! The 8th circuit is corrupt & ruined beyond repair.
Judge was ‘tough’ on him, $85,000 for freedom. So $8500 and dope slinger walks.
And folk wonder why crime is so dang high in
    Hogtown.

  • Yes 8500. Cash, but he still has to have collateral to cover the full 85k. Also felon with a gun is minimum mandatory 15 years. But to put the real spin on it,when he and daddy get out, he is entitled to collect SSI and Medicaid that covers All his medical bills. All the perks of someone who has never been to jail.
But, I still think it is that spider that is growing out of that families head.
I also know someone from the gold sneakers club will blame Biden

    • Too bad we can’t offset his SSI to help pay for all the early funerals he’s caused.

But we can’t blame poor Mr. Biden for this one. In fact, we really can’t blame Biden for much at all. He was the dim bulb of the Senate his entire career and now he’s just an empty suit in the West Wing. Anyone with experience dealing with dementia patients knows it was elder abuse to elect him the first time and now even the NYT seems to be asking itself if its affliction of TDS is really so bad that it has to support the guy again.

      • Ahh,and you think the alternative is better? Every business he has started has failed. Trump U…Trump Steaks, DJT stock has tanked. Even his beautiful wall that Mexico would pay for. No payment, no wall. The Trump brand is only thing that survived and that was because of his father, who gave him billions,so he could entertain adult film stars and grab women’s crotch while his wife was home pregnant..No thanks, once was enough

          • So how do those golden sneakers feel? Probably better when reading his Bible.. or Mein Kophf.the book he keeps by his bed.

          • What book do you keep by your bedside? Chicken Little? The bad orange man’s net worth increased by about $5 billion since he started Truth Social last year.

          • All of which is tied up in stock that he can’t touch for 6 months. Which incidentally lost half its value in the first week. You obviously don’t know how stock valuations work. Truth Social is bleeding money and has not turned a profit. It was like Trump a shooting star, now fizzling. You all need to buy more shares, which will be close to a penny stock the next reporting period…As I said, there is not one thing he has started that worked. Now he is selling shoes

  • That why his son is nicknamed Squirt. Familial relationships aren’t really relevant; just the portfolio of Felonies.
