32-time convicted felon arrested at Northside Park with trafficking amounts of drugs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alvin Lee Strain, 56, was arrested last night and charged with trafficking in phenethylamines after allegedly having marijuana and a trafficking amount of “molly” at Northside Park.

A Gainesville Police Department officer made contact with Strain at about 10:15 p.m. last night because of a sworn complaint for domestic battery that had been filed in November 2022. A search incident to arrest reportedly produced 82.5 grams of a white rock-like substance that tested positive for MDPV (identified as “molly” by Strain) and 40 grams of marijuana in eight separate plastic bags; the search also produced a digital scale and empty plastic bags inside Strain’s backpack.

Post Miranda, Strain reportedly said he gives drugs to people who want them; he also said that all the drugs in his backpack were for his personal use.

Strain has 32 felony convictions and 24 misdemeanor convictions and has served 12 state prison sentences, with his most recent release in March 2022. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $100,000 for possession of more than 10 grams of phenethylamines, $15,000 for possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,000 feet of a park, and $2,500 for domestic battery.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Welcome to Harvey, Poe & the rest of the liberal majority’s vision of Gainesville.
How many more chances does he deserve? What if the next one is given at the expense of your child?

Say what you will about the knuckleheads who stormed the Capital, liberals are far more gullible en masse.

      • Eylis, I don’t believe any have been convicted of “domestic terrorism.” They are guilty of being stupid, naive, gullible idiots for taking action, albeit extreme, on Trump’s words. They were lemmings to him; difference was, he knew better than to get personally involved.
I believe the same naive, gullible, idiocy lies in those who appear to be in favor of the far left policies and attacks on the US Constitution that are being implemented not only in Gainesville but across this nation.

That’s my opinion and everyone has one. Problem is, not everyone has common sense.

      • The terrorists are coming across the southern border every day, but we won’t know what they’re planning until it happens.

  • Why is he even walking the streets we need to have a three strike law 3 felony your gone for good

  • Welcome to G’ville. The most liberal safe haven drug-invested City in Florida. It’s embarrassing to be associated with this C

  • Welcome to G’ville. Fifty-two reasons, and obviously it’s not going to work. How many others did he introduce to a criminal life in our community?
Our State Attorney needs to explain why this individual was out of prison!

  • Well he’s actually using the few brain cells he hasn’t smoked up yet & being smart about one thing: he’s choosing Gainesville to keep committing all his crimes in. Hence why he’s still walking the streets after 56 convictions & drawing free money from taxpayers.

    • JeffK: I don’t know if you can call this a golden goose…a client with no money that can’t afford an attorney and gets a public defender appointed by the court.
Probably pleads out each time for a lesser sentence because he’s guilty with no defense.

    • Jeff, Have you seen how much those law skool grads are making as public defenders? $50k/Year. Try your schtick on the ambulance chasers

  • Thats My Stepdad He Has A Mental Problem An Been Off His Meds But A Hard Head Leave A Soft Ssa…

    • Then you and your family should get him the help he needs keep him off the streets if you can’t then have a judge commit him

  • Looks like Alvin has really been putting a “Strain” on the criminal recidivism rate.

  • “For personal use” clearly improves one’s frisbee golf game when playing at night!
