37th Annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire coming to Downtown Gainesville on Jan. 27 & 28
Press release from City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – “Hoggetowne Goes Downtown” is the theme of the 37th annual Hoggetowne Medieval Faire as the City of Gainesville’s downtown park and nearby venues step back in time with traditional old-world games, medieval wares, and merriment.
The City’s premier event celebrating the Middle Ages, creativity, and culture is free and open to the public.
When: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 27, and Sun., Jan. 28
Where: Depot Park, 874 SE 4th Street, Gainesville
Free shuttle and tram rides will ferry attendees from several downtown parking locations. The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire’s website includes an interactive parking map and additional information.
The Cade Museum for Creativity and Invention, adjacent to the park, offers free admission this Saturday and Sunday, and features activities and demonstrations including the Secrets of Alchemy with Lady Archimedes Goodpenny.
First Magnitude Brewing Company is the site of two free after-hours performances: The New Minstrel Revue, Friday from 7-9 p.m.; and the Sahnobar Caravan fire show, Saturday from 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Additional information, including a list of frequently asked questions, can be found online.
Offering a variety of cultural venues, programs, and events serving the needs of all, provided by the public sector, private sector, and community nonprofit organizations is a key element of the City’s strategic plan.
You can thank the inept Democrat politicians who decided that main streets should be one lane in each direction for the mess that will happen this weekend. Apparently they didn’t learn their lesson after the Archer Rd fiasco last year. I guess the trams and shuttles will ride on the sidewalks or bike lanes to get anywhere.
This year there will be live reenactments of medieval banditry from Robbin’ Hood and his merry band of Depot Park crackheads, sponsored by Grace Marketplace.
Be sure to wear ye olde level-IV plate armor and shank-proof chainmail if you dare to attend.
Don’t know if people have kept track of historical events and recent local events.
Broadswords, lances and chain mail don’t do much for protection against modern small weapons.
Enjoy finding parking if you can get thru the gridlock that will surely occur.
I’d like to go but…..it’s in the ‘gun violence’ side of town. Can’t even walk your dog without getting robbed and shot.
