ALACHUA, Fla. – A 5-year-old boy was killed this morning in Alachua when he was hit by a pickup truck while crossing the road.

At about 7:05 a.m., a 911 call was received about a child that had been hit by a pickup truck in the 15400 block of Hipp Way, near Criswell Park in Alachua.

Alachua Police Department officers arrived at about 7:09 a.m. and found the child alive but with visible head injuries; officers began first aid. The child was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The pickup truck was driven by a 30-year-old Alachua man. Florida Highway Patrol’s release said that the truck was traveling north on Hipp Way and the child was walking westward on the sidewalk that leads to a crosswalk. The child attempted to cross Hipp Way at the same time the pickup truck arrived at the crosswalk, and the truck hit the child.

Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.

  • The question I have was this child walking alone?
It’s sad both ways the parents and the driver that hit him

  • My grandchild is special needs and walking with his mother that didntstop someone from almost hitting him.
