GPD: 2 more firearms incidents Wednesday
BY JENNIFER CABRERA
Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of NE 11th Place on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at approximately 8:04 a.m., in reference to reports of multiple shots fired.
After arriving to the scene, officers made contact with the reporting party and victim, whose home was struck 3 times by gunfire. A parked vehicle and telephone pole were also struck. Several shell casings from multiple weapons were found in the street. Nobody was hurt during the incident. No suspects have been identified.
On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, at approximately 10:12 p.m., a GPD officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle running a red light at the intersection of NW 8th Avenue and NW 34th Street. As the vehicle pulled to a stop, the passenger, George Strawder (DOB: 03/29/2001) opened the vehicle door and tossed an object out of the vehicle. After backup units arrived, the object was identified as a loaded handgun.
Strawder was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cannabis of less than 20g. The driver of the vehicle was issued a citation for the red light violation.
Strawder had been previously arrested on June 21, 2020, for premeditated attempted homicide, but according to court records, he was released on his own recognizance on July 30 after prosecutors failed to file charges.
These incidents continue the growing trend of shots fired, shootings, armed robberies, and other gun-related events occurring in Gainesville and the surrounding area.
If anyone has information about the shooting into a dwelling incident, please contact GPD Detectives at 352- 393-7670, or remain anonymous by reporting information to Crime Stoppers at 352-372-7687 or https://www.stopcrime.tv/.
Hope the local leadership and their supporters are okay with this. The left aren’t smart enough to realize you have to travel through the “wild west” before you get to San Francisco. They’re probably just glad to see their efforts coming to fruition.
Maybe they should change the name of Gainesville to Gunsville or Crimesville,
“Guns don’t kill people, people kill people”…
We have the 2nd Amendment right to defend our
Lives. Don’t give the local elected tyrants any reasons
To disarm lawful citizens…in fact, we would be safer if
More citizens had concealed weapons permits to deter
Crimes….pull a gun on me and if I’m in fear for my life, then you’re done.
How about just enforce the laws that are on the
Books? This guy is a convicted felon who was arrested
on 6/21/20 and was released on his own recognizance with no charges? What’s that all about?
Heads need to be rolling at the states attorneys’ office!
Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time!
Why wasn’t this A-hole locked up?…I’m waiting….
