Construction begins on Gainesville’s new NE 31st Avenue Multi-Use Trail
Press release from the City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs are excited to announce the start of construction on the NE 31st Avenue Multi-Use Trail.
This new 10-foot-wide paved path will run along the north side of NE 31st Avenue, connecting NE 15th Street to NE Waldo Road (State Road 24). The trail will provide a safe and scenic route for walking, running, or biking and will enhance connectivity within the community.
R. E. Arnold Construction, Inc. was awarded the contract for these improvements through a competitive bidding process, totaling $1,499,900.
Lane closures are not expected for this project; however, temporary shoulder closures will occur during the reconstruction of driveway aprons.
The anticipated construction timeline for the project is October 2025 through the summer of 2026.

Isn’t that nice….unfortunately won’t be able to use it as most of my free time is stuck on Newberry road in a traffic jam to and from work. They repaved some of west Newberry road (even though it didn’t need it?) but no additional lanes were added……sigh.
Right of way is typically very expensive in developed areas.
The trail ends across the the street from Grace Marketplace. That should tell you everything that you need to know. What a waste of money!
Not according to the map – it ends at Waldo Road.
NE industrial park….from Ne 15th street to Waldo road? Why?
I’ve done a lot of work in that area and there is a lot of pedestrian and foot traffic through that road.
