Construction begins on Gainesville’s new NE 31st Avenue Multi-Use Trail

Press release from the City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs are excited to announce the start of construction on the NE 31st Avenue Multi-Use Trail.

This new 10-foot-wide paved path will run along the north side of NE 31st Avenue, connecting NE 15th Street to NE Waldo Road (State Road 24). The trail will provide a safe and scenic route for walking, running, or biking and will enhance connectivity within the community.

R. E. Arnold Construction, Inc. was awarded the contract for these improvements through a competitive bidding process, totaling $1,499,900.

Lane closures are not expected for this project; however, temporary shoulder closures will occur during the reconstruction of driveway aprons.

The anticipated construction timeline for the project is October 2025 through the summer of 2026.

  • Isn’t that nice….unfortunately won’t be able to use it as most of my free time is stuck on Newberry road in a traffic jam to and from work. They repaved some of west Newberry road (even though it didn’t need it?) but no additional lanes were added……sigh.

  • The trail ends across the the street from Grace Marketplace. That should tell you everything that you need to know. What a waste of money!

    • I’ve done a lot of work in that area and there is a lot of pedestrian and foot traffic through that road.
