ACPS Director of Educational Equity arrested for driving under the influence in Hillsborough County

Staff report

HILLSBOROUGH, Fla. – Dakeyan “Dré” Cha Dre Graham, 39, was arrested for driving under the influence in Hillsborough County on February 3, 2024. Graham is the Director of Educational Equity for Alachua County Public Schools.

According to the arrest report, Graham was pulled over at about 11:30 p.m. on February 2 on N. Dale Mabry Avenue in Greater Carrollwood for speeding and failing to maintain a lane. A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Deputy wrote that Graham “emitted the odor of an alcoholic beverage from his breath, lethargic in nature, slurred speech at times and bloodshot watery eyes.” The deputy noted “impairment [was] observed” during Field Sobriety Exercises, and both breath samples reportedly measured at 0.125 g/210L, well over the legal limit of 0.08 g/210L.

Graham was taken into custody and released after posting a $500 bond. His next court date in the case is March 27, 2024.

Graham also received a speeding ticket in Alachua County on May 8, 2023.

According to Alachua County Public Schools’ website, “Before joining Alachua County Public Schools, Dr. Graham, the 2020 Florida Teacher of the Year and Christa McAuliffe Ambassador for Education, served as the Executive Director for the Office of Independent Education and Parental Choice and the Bureau of School Improvement. During his time in the classroom, he taught as the Director of Instrumental Studies for more than a decade at his alma mater, C. Leon King High School in Tampa, FL.”

  • February 2 that was over a month ago I wonder if he reported it to a supervisor if so, what kind of disciplinary action did he get? Or was another one of these sweep under the rug so taxpayers won’t find out. Thank you, Jeniffer for posting this.

    • The ACSB has most of the local media in their hip pocket. The recent biased and prejudice reporting by WCJB on the Newberry Charter Schools speaks volumes of their agenda.

  • ““There’s a big difference between equality and equity,” said now Vice President Kamala Harris as she ran for the presidency of the United States, and many millions watched and shared her video, which depicted one mountain climber who starts in a deep hole and another who starts much higher up. On the very day of his inauguration, with Vice President Harris at his side, President Joe Biden embraced the word “equity” in executive orders. He charged Susan Rice, director of his Domestic Policy Council, “with ensuring that the new administration embeds issues of racial equity into everything it does.””

    And here we are…

    • Many people do not know that ‘equity’ and ‘equality’ are not synonymous.

Many people do not know that this equity movement is a top down program from the United Nations thru the US federal government and on down to local governments.

When you build on a fake foundation this is exactly what happens! Let’s focus on equality, not equity!

    • This incident has nothing to do with equity or every DUI is a reflection of the worthiness of the perp’s job.

      Cut the crap.

  • Hey SBAC, how about you worry about your people instead of spreading false propaganda about Newberry. Let them help their children since YOU won’t!!

  • It’ll be interesting to know if he self-reported. DUI is dangerous and against the law but most employers require notification of any encounters with LEOs of significance. DUI is significant.
With any luck he’ll learn from his mistake and can use it as a learning tool.

    • A DUI conviction will follow him around in his profession. Not good.

      • I wish it was true! He will get a slap on the wrist from SBAC and that is. He has a high paying job and since race matters more that anything else, he will keep that job. 🙄

  • Being “Director of Educational Equity for Alachua County Public Schools” is probably mostly a “phone in attendance and collect excessive pay” kind of job. Scold some persons of pallor, and you’ve done your job. Nice work if you can get it.

  • What’s his salary? This is ANOTHER REASon to vote YES for Newberry’s charter school initiative. Why wasn’t this discussed at the SBAC mtg?

  • So the school district has a “Chief of Equity” and a “Director of Equity?” What exactly are they doing except making six figure salaries? Aside from that, definitely not a good look for the school system. Now, to see what the board does about it.

    • They are practically the same job, working for SBAC, I can tell you that they collect reports to then make reports about… Then they ask for suggestions for what could be done, then they make a report about that …THEN they do it all again after a couple of months. The amount of wasted money and time that this department creates is ridiculous.

      • GNV: you make working for SBAC sound like working for NASA and the pentagon.

  • The substance in question was, in fact, wine that had been utilized during a religious ceremony. However, this explanation has already been employed previously. Alternatively, it was mouthwash that had been excessively employed after a garlic-infused Italian banquet. The previous explanation is no longer viable. In reality, the mistake lies solely with the officers, as they misinterpreted the results. In situations of uncertainty, resorting to the race card and invoking moral justification is always a valid course of action.

    • Most mouthwashes have NO alcohol and the ‘religious ceremony’ would have to be a celebration of Bacchus to consume enough wine to blow a .125.

  • When will DeSantis abolish all these DEI tax funded wasteful offices? Is there enough bureaucracy in gumment already? Why not have one catch-all office of Excuses?

  • Graham is the Director of Educational Equity for Alachua County Public Schools??? Educational Equity? Isn’t that all about giving gold stars and lowering test requirements for knuckleheads so they don’t feel “micro-aggressed” by students with superior intellects? Have you heard about what happened to Boeing Aircraft lately? They used to build great airplanes. But they needed to have more equity and diversity and inclusion. So they hired a bunch of diversity misfits who got gold stars in school just for being able to walk and chew gum at the same time. Now Boeing jets have their doors falling off, windows blowing out, as well as numerous other failures due to hiring people based on “equity” instead of merit. Once upon a time Americans would have rejected as pure horse dung all this “equity” bull crap. But after decades of pure communist brainwashing in the sorry excuses we call “schools,” most Americans are now a bunch of complacent mental weaklings who can be gaslighted into believing any line of bull fed to them. Alachua County is an inept communist hive centered around the idiotic school board and various alumni of the brainwashing factory called UF. Do any of the cretins running Alachua County have any awareness of the fact that all this diversity, equity and inclusion claptrap has wrecked our country? Our schools are a joke. Our cities are wrecked. Our banks are mostly insolvent. Our currency is fast becoming worthless. We have been de-industrialized to the point where there are very few good jobs left, and in a bloodsucker town like Gainesville the options for young people are to become a nurse, sling hamburgers, or work for some parasite ambulance chasing lawyers. Gainesville produces absolutely nothing the world needs. We cannot compete globally. Our open borders are breaking us socially and financially. All there is here are health care clinics on every corner to provide overpriced “health” care for the wretched and the decrepit. Oh yes, we do churn out useless young snowflakes with worthless degrees by the truck load. Our youth has degenerated to the extent they don’t even know their own gender anymore. And most of them are too lazy do any real work. In short, our society is a train wreck. When everything is falling apart, dumps like Alachua County burn up taxpayer money on hiring directors of equity instead of fixing the decaying infrastructure. This is pure psychosis afflicting all the low life communists in this county who mimic Chairman Mao’s cultural revolution. What can you say about the future of a country that runs for president senile geriatric nitwits, buffoons and other mental misfits?

    • Paco, why don’t you leave?

Gnv through the U of F produces an education that is world class, which is why students from all over the world come here to study the science, engineering, and technology which will lead the next gen of human advances.

Your complete lack of perspective, given most of us Americans are the luckiest SOBs to ever live since humans 1st walked the earth over 250,000 years ago , is astounding. Thinking that 19th century technology – industrial production, which by the way is up under Biden – is the highlight of human existence and achievement, when we are awash with material possessions – how many cars and TVs should we each own? – shows you have no understanding of the present or the future.

But hey, if you can’t take it anymore – poor, poor baby! – take a hike. One of those millions of immigrants trying to come here every year will gladly take your place and probably outwork your sorry butt. That’s how all of our ancestors got here

      • All of you checking thumbs down on my post, GTH out of Gnv and Alachua County and make it a better place. You won’t be missed.

      • World class education in the sciences? What is this, MIT, or Stanford U? UF is a second tier institution and its engineering graduates usually go on to become baristas in Starbucks. There are virtually no success stories coming out of UF engineering colleges. You would be better off becoming a plumber or going to barber college.

        • Nope, no distinguished Alum’s from U of F.
          Not Dr. Cade, nope.
Not the engineer who redesigned the B-29 then flew it over Hiroshima, nope.
Not the co-founder of NVIDIA, Chris Malachowsky, nope.
This list is impressive…do your research before you claim
“There are virtually no success stories coming out of UF engineering colleges.”

          • Too thin. Too thin K. One or two persons of prominence does not a success story make. The vast majority of UF engineering grads buy themselves a one way ticket to debt and palookaville. They wind up engineering nothing. In fact, they couldn’t design a paper bag much less think their way out of one. The real brains go to MIT. That’s where I got my Ph.D in physics and masters in mechanical engineering. The second rate wannabes wind up in second rate schools like UF where “equity” is placed above ability and talent. I will say however, that when it comes to Marxist indoctrination by leftist psycho professors, UF is indeed one of the leaders of the pack.

          • The very few who land jobs wind up being job shop temporary gig workers who work an assignment less than a year. They quickly burn out and become truck drivers. A UPS driver earns $100,000 per year plus $50,000 in benefits — without a UF engineering degree! And they get job security instead of short term temp gig work roaming from state to state living out of a Winnebago. No UF engineering graduates land long term jobs with any job securty. If one of them is still doing any engineering after 3 years it is a miracle.

          • Your ridiculous ignorance belies your claim to having a PhD from MIT.

I personally know 1 engineering grad from UF who was hired immediately upon graduation by the firm that funded the new engineering building on campus. He went to their international HQ in the Melbourne area to work for a few years and then returned on their dime to get his masters while still being paid his salary to do some work as well. He has that master and is still here, still being paid his increasing salary, because he can work at home AND THEY NEED ENGINEERS.

How many of these truck drivers you talk about live in Haile Plantation. I’m sure they can afford a new double wide but I don’t think Haile will let them park them there.

  • It’s one way to get woke (EEI = DEI) out of your schools. Let them self-destruct as most liberals do. Time to say “You are terminated.”

    • RMB, the Johnson formerly known as Kurtz is useless. She is a racist shield for the school board. Check records on her salary over the years.

  • Doesn’t seem very “equitable” when 75% of the DEI employees are black, considering the county is 20% black. Public tax dollars have no place funding DEI nonsense.

    • Because it isn’t about equity. It’s all about appeasement and virtue signaling.

  • Disgusting..He should be fired. This is no role model for the children. I don’t want my tax dollars going to this.

  • Hs job title has nothing to do with the charges. Do better Chronicle.

    • New York sure is enjoying it’s recent dose of liberal imposed diversity…..are you sure you don’t want to go back?

  • I wonder if he’s the only teacher in Alachua County ever to get a DUI? And, does one DUI negate everything else?

    • In his position he has to uphold the trust bestowed on him. Apparently he can’t do that….

      • Didn’t a mayor of Gainesville get a DUi a Few years ago didn’t lose their job and got a chauffeur to drive them around

        • You talking about Biomass Craig Monteocha Lowe. The drugged out Hanrahan puppet that oversaw the Bankruptcy of Gru with censorship at the helm?

      • How does it go…he who has never sinned, throw the first stone–something like that, right?

  • Looks like everybody is under pressure, AUTO ins. HOME OWNERS OUT RAGEOUS PREM’S, AND OUTRAGEOUS TAXES. Some one trying to live a decent life style, (nothing extravagant), do not stand
a chance. I have been wondering where the La Cosa Nostra had gone too. I know now, they are running crooked Ins. co’s.

  • Two beers at Chilis will get you a DUI. It’s a pretty common mistake no matter one’s politics. It seems kind of nasty to try and kick someone when they are down and mess with their job–very petty.

    • So your ok with someone driving drunk getting into wrecks maybe killing a innocent person
That tells me everything I need to know about you 💩

        • You do have to guess about me Republican firm believer in our 2A, Florida SYG Law right and wrong retired FF/paramedic after 30 years and no dam use for a drunk driver seen two many incidents where they didn’t kill them selves but innocent people

  • Alachua County School Boards finest. It could be a teaching moment for this Board. But they know nothing about teaching, and their actions speak for themselves . The double dipping Board Member that held office by deceit apparently never paid back her ill gotten salary , did she? And she’s his boss?

  • I personally know Dr. Graham. He is a good man an has done amazing things for the kids around the state of Florida. He made a mistake. I choose to give him grace!

  • He wants to be one of us desperately and he has a track record of being unqualified for positions. He was walked out of DOE so Alachua picked up the trash. How did this unqualified, unsavory character end up on our back porch anyway? Who brought this “wannabe” into our midst?
