Press release from Alachua County Public Schools

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – As you probably know, Tropical Storm Helene is currently on a track to reach Florida later this week, very likely making landfall as a hurricane.

The district is monitoring the storm and working closely with Alachua County Emergency Management to prepare.

Schools and district offices will be OPEN and operating as usual on Wednesday, September 25. The district plans to notify families and staff via email, phone, and text and through our website (https://www.sbac.edu) and social media by 2 p.m. Wednesday about plans for Thursday, September 26.

In the meantime, we encourage everyone to begin planning for the storm now. That includes preparing your home and/or business and pulling together a hurricane kit. More information, including local weather updates, preparation tips, shelter openings, sandbag locations and more, is available at https://www.alachuacountyready.com

  • why wait until the last second, it would make too much sense to go ahead and call it off? Some parents need to make other arrangements…

    • They need to stay open. Just some cloudy weather. We’re out of cone of uncertainty…they should not get a paid day off.

      • Exactly… Why would we want anyone paid for being off a day. Its obviously detrimental to the future of the United States economy
