GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Alachua County Public Schools Superintendent Kamela Patton has agreed to “assign overnight accommodations strictly based on biological sex, as defined in Florida law, without exception.”

On Friday, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier sent a letter to the school district after receiving a report on the Parent Portal that two boys who identify as girls were sleeping in a girls’ cabin at the district’s summer camp, Camp Crystal Lake. ACPS Public Information Officer Jackie Johnson told Alachua Chronicle, “In keeping with district protocols, if a camper identifies as a gender other than that assigned at birth, families must give both written AND verbal permission for their child to be assigned to the same cabin. If the camper needs to change clothes, shower or use the restroom, that camper will do so in another cabin. Also, there are four adults and two Counselors in Training (CITs) assigned to the cabin, and there is constant supervision.”

In a letter dated June 13, ACPS Superintendent Patton wrote that ACPS “remains committed to full compliance with Florida law and School Board policy regarding this issue.” She wrote that the district “has already taken steps to ensure that all overnight accommodations at Camp Crystal Lake and all other overnight trips are and will continue to ‘separate children into their proper, sex-based sleeping quarters,’ as defined in Florida law and reinforced in our own School Board policies.”

The complaint was about last week’s session, which ended on Friday.

Patton’s letter concludes, “The district appreciates your guidance and takes its duty to ‘enforce basic safeguards for children’s safety and privacy’ seriously. Accordingly, the district will continue to assign overnight accommodations strictly based on biological sex, as defined in Florida law, without exception.”

In a post on X, Uthmeier wrote, “This is a win for girls’ safety and parents’ rights.”

  • Typical Alachua County! This should have never been given a second thought. We need ALL new members for the school board.

  • Life’s full of choices. Every day we get to pick and choose. Somehow I don’t think she would have enjoyed the other option.

On another note, she could take the choice to surrender part of her salary to assist with the dire financial situation the district has recently made public.
I’d be willing to bet that’s a choice she’s not going to take.

    • I would be willing to bet you support a rapist fascist con artist and felon. I also bet your hate fueled rhetoric is all directed at trans people for your own bigoted reasons when you are the real terrorist.

    • What’s your beef with her salary? She deserves it thus far. She has worked with the charter folks, and she nipped this law-breaking right in the bud. I like her. She doesn’t fight the state and she gets stuff done.

      • 25% vs 1% 🤔

My beef is when there’s a huge disproportionate salary increase between the people in the trenches vs the people at the district level.

All the talk from the SBAC about not having funds is just talk I guess. If you’re a parent of children attending ACPS, you should be sick of that BS.

        • Look, “I (not me) voted for it”, she’s a paid consultant to help fix the district. She comes with a hefty price tag. So far, she’s saved the district a ton of money in legal fees. The SOS people want them to waste money fighting the state on the charter and you know damn well they would have wasted money on this too if she let them.

No, I don’t like her salary and I’m ticked at ACPS waste. The next step would be to consolidate and close half empty eastside schools and get rid of excess fat (layers of management) in Kirby. Oh, and she needs to fix behavior, desperately.

She’s earned her salary on this and the Newberry charter (wish I could say the same for baby Vu), but my opinion could change depending on her next steps.

Also, if this salary were for a permanent sup, I’d raise holy heck, because I didn’t vote for any of this BS!!!

          • She’s not a consultant. She’s the Superintendent of Alachua County schools. Don’t get me wrong, she comes with fantastic credentials, and as you mentioned, “a hefty price tag.” Just not convinced she’s worth an extra 25%over the previous superintendent.

Thanks for disclosing, I believe, that you don’t like her salary as well though.

I also hope you realize the District has been through 8 superintendents over the past 15 – 20 years. Maybe the problem isn’t the superintendent but the people deciding who to hire as superintendent. Voters should rethink those they’ve elected to make those decisions.

    • Tammy go raise your kid to take an AR to class. You sick women are the ones who raise those kids.

      • If you want your child to be a killer load them up on SSRI’s and first person shooter games. You can also add a side cart of tranny indoctrination and a social media profile to speed it along. Mental illness is real and pills and random gender identity will not solve it….they exacerbate it.

        • Slice, yes, mental illness is real. I’d rather give a teen SSRIs and extensive talk therapy than puberty blockers and/or hormones. The pills can be useful as long as closely monitored and therapy is a must.

      • Have to admit, nice to see Tammy is raising her kid and not counting on the government to do it for her.

But No probably doesn’t think so.

      • NO, Why are people like YOU full of hate? Tammy simply said “thank you for protecting our children” Sounds like you prefer no protection for children. You know, kind of like pedophiles.

  • Well Well Well it looks like DNA wins this time.
    (((XY=XY)(XX=XX ))((XY≠XX )( XX≠ZY))

    • Radical Left Wing Science goes like this:
      •Cell Biologist ≠ Progressive Liberal
      •Psychiatrist = Progressive Liberal
      •Cell biology bad, psychiatry good

      • ” Analysis of Federal Election Commission (FEC) data shows that scientists, including biologists, who donate to political candidates and parties are significantly more likely to support Democrats than Republicans. This trend has become more pronounced since the year 2000.
Survey data: A 2009 Pew survey indicated that the majority of scientists identified as Democrats (55%), with a smaller percentage identifying as Republicans (6%) and the rest as independents (32%). Taking into account independents who lean towards a particular party, 81% identified as Democrats or leaned towards the Democratic Party, compared to 12% who identified as Republicans or leaned towards the Republican Party.”

Reason? The GOP targets and wins dummies. The smarter you are, the less likely that you buy that crap.

          • So, you prefer the nonsense Slice pulled out of his butt?

Or do you think all those scientists have been so impressed with Trump and his Obama like grasp of the complexities of our existence that they have all converted to MAGA?

        • Because… scientists… are automatically smarter than anyone else?

Ignoring inherent bias in the data, ignoring that you cherry-picked a stat with zero context, your conclusion is a tenuous plea for Occam to put it out of its misery.

          • Doo….fous, Slice brought up this issue, not me.

He pulled pure crap out of his butt and I found relevant information from a reputable source which flatly contradicts him ………and you go after me?

Clearly you’re no scientists and from here on out should have to take a test to get a fishing license.

        • You wrote: “The GOP targets and wins dummies.” That is exactly how the DNC views anyone who dare vote their mind, and not simply be a “sheep!”

Wait, Biden did not have a mind for 4 years, did he vote for himself?

That is why the DNC is willing to pay $20M to learn how to talk to men! Send in Newsom and Bass! They will surely straighten everything out! NOT! LMFAO! You pay for their required camera crews as well! They don’t spit out their woke stupidity for nothing!

          • DNC, it’s an established fact that GOP voters are dummies. You want it sugar coated?

Biden has not lost his mind, except for short periodic “where was I” moments not uncommon to people his and Trump’s age. He ranks as our 14th best president by historians, led us through Covid and a world economic crash with lower inflation than most all other developed nations, left that economy The Economist in the fall termed “the envy of the world” to the current dummy in chief (Trump left Biden a negative GDP and a sea of red ink and refused to cooperate in the traditional transition period between administrations). Besides being the most effective president since LBJ, he led the NATO meeting in July, ate the Republicans lunch – AGAIN – in real time at his last SOTU speech, and passed the infrastructure bill Trump promised, which happens to be particularly red-state friendly, unlike DIC’s targeting of blue states and cities. Yeah, I’ll take Biden as president against the current jerk, who besides being a stupid full time liar, is a low life scum bag.

Otherwise, please take note that of the last 8 elections, the Democrats have won the popular vote in all but 2, with the last one being a razor thin margin, not a mandate. In fact most Americans voted for someone else, and he lost the vote to Biden and Hillary by a lot more than he won this last.

          • Stay out of the women’s’ restroom Jazzman, you aren’t allowed to go in there.

  • What a great time we had at Camp Crystal under the leadership of Mrs. Driscoll in the 50’s. This kind of stuff was an unheard of non-issue.

  • Everybody except Dem leaders know summer camps are rife with sexual improprieties. Why did local Dems make that easier for so long?
    👿🤡👹👺🏳️‍🌈

    • CCL wasn’t when I was a camper… we’re talking about 7 through 11 years old. Gross to even think those innocent children are engaging in “sexual improprieties.”

If they are, then heads need to roll

  • I am relieved that this has been put in place but sadden that it even had to be dealt with. I can only conclude that the “ACSB” does not do thorough vetting of where & what our Children are doing until there is a problem that goes way above their supervision or standards. Our parents, grandparents & family members must always it seems, watch constantly & closely over their children our school district. Our children are the most precious and innocent of all and trust they are being cared for properly by ACSB. Thank goodness our Attorney General was notified & stepped in to “right this terrible wrong”.

  • It’s sad that it takes a threat from the AG to make the Democrats running Alachua County and GNV to simply obey the law. But then, Democrat politicians seem to have trouble with telling the difference between M and F.

  • just think a few years ago we had third graders being read gay penguin books.

These mentally ill, parents and teachers are pushing transgenderism onto these impressionable kids and it’s disgusting
