ACSO Deputies assist in arrest of I-75 shooter
Press release from Alachua County Sheriff’s Office
On December 2, 2021, around 11:45 a.m., deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol in a pursuit that started on I-75 in Columbia County and traveled into Alachua County. During the pursuit, law enforcement executed the Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) and deployed stop sticks, which eventually rendered the vehicle immobile on I-75 at the 406 mile marker. The driver then fled from the stopped vehicle and deputies engaged in a foot pursuit, hearing what sounded like a gunshot during the foot pursuit. A perimeter was established to contain the suspect, with mutual aid resources from many agencies assisting in a search. Just after 4 p.m., the suspect, identified as Marandoe Acell Lamar Young, 21, was apprehended by K-9 Micco.
Investigation revealed that Mr. Young was in possession of a significant amount of cannabis and a firearm, which he discharged during the foot pursuit. Mr. Young will be charged with Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Possession of Cannabis with Intent to Distribute, and three counts of Aggravated Assault of a Law Enforcement Officer. Additional charges may be added as the investigation continues. Mr. Young will be treated for injuries sustained during the K-9 apprehension before being taken to the Alachua County Jail.
Throw the book at him. These people are too dangerous to be out and menacing society.
Oh my not another hard working black man trying to male a living being harrased by the police..when is this madness going to stop

noun
1. a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.
“the stereotype of the woman as the carer”
Now you know.
From the headline, I thought some guy was shooting at cars on I 75…No, it’s an equity challenged guy who had a “significant amount of cannabis” that was trying to protect himself and get away. Will he be let go the next
Day like the guy who caused the 2 deaths on I75 on
Thanksgiving? Are they going to file additional charges
Of vehicular manslaughter on the thanksgiving guy who
Caused the crash using a car on thanksgiving? I’m not
A prosecutor…was that car crash that killed 2 people
“Vehicular manslaughter”? Does it make a difference if
The killing weapon was a gun or car?? They need to
Grab the thanksgiving crash guy and throw him back
In jail….
Totally agree but I bet he’s out with his wrist slapped.
“Mr. Young was in possession of a significant amount of cannabis” Bull spit. He had 9 ounces. Enough of this failed war on pot. Within 5 years recreational pot will be legal in Florida. At the old GE Battery plant in Alachua on 441 next to Tech City they are building two acres of indoor grow houses to produce TONS of marijuana per year. The hypocrisy of having dozens of cops chasing one young black guy with pot is lunacy.
Things haven’t changed…yet.
Typical answer. As of this writing, that amount of cannabis possession is illegal. Maybe considering all the violent crimes being committed in this country we should stop worrying about that as well. What a knucklehead.
Did you ever think the real lunacy was your fellow knucklehead who decided it was better to run from law enforcement? You are part of the problem.
The things people actually believe…
Obviously you didn’t read the story….first he refused to stop when the officer attempted to pull him over..then he shot at a cop..they searched his car after he fled on foot after shooting at an officer did they find the drugs…probably should have read the whole story instead of making up a false narrative
It’s my understanding that he refused to stop for an attempted traffic stop in Columbia county and fired at deputies there, hence the escalated response. Obviously no one know what was in the car yet when he shot at law enforcement.
