Alachua City Manager says City is “actively gathering information” about allegations that ineligible voters cast ballots
April 25, 2025

Press release from City of Alachua
ALACHUA, Fla. – Questions about the City of Alachua’s recent election were made during the April 21, 2025 City Commission meeting.
During citizen comments, questions were raised regarding the eligibility of some voters who cast ballots during the City election held on April 8, 2025.
“The City has very little information regarding the questions raised,” said City Manager Mike DaRoza. “However, the City is taking these claims very seriously and is actively gathering information regarding these questions.”
EVERY election in Alachua for the past 30 years has allegations of some kind of funny business. Only one thing they have in common.
The city runs its own elections run by highly partisan city staffers. They either cannot, or will not, run a clean election.
It is past time to do what other cities do and hire the impartial county employees at the Supervisor of Elections to run the elections.
If Alachua does not do this, it shows a majority of the commissioners like crooked rigged elections to keep them in power. Is Alachua ready to join the 21st century?
I agree something needs to be done but the SOE for Alachua County is not impartial.
The City of Alachua is bound by their voter rolls from SOE Barton.
The city runs its own elections. The problem, if it exists, may be with voters, or it may be with the election workers, or both. Every election worker is hired by and works for the city manager. He is in no way an impartial “investigator” in this matter, as the problem, if it exists, could go up to include his office. The investigation is rigged before it starts. The manager cannot investigate himself. Except in Alachua.
When is the new commission going to get an appropriate city logo and get rid of that Mardi Gra dunce cap?

Prediction: “We have investigated ourselves thoroughly, and found no evidence of wrongdoing.”
If they do, great, the mustache is out of city hall and what the heck is Glaeser whining about?
On the other hand, do they intend to claim 272 bad ballots and flip the other race to put the Turkey Creek candidate back in? That would be enough election shenanigans to call a grand jury. I say bring it on.
Did anyone besides Glaeser raise questions about the election? Is he afraid of losing control of City Hall? Hmmm???
Public records show that Mitch Glaeser made a $250 campaign contribution to candidate Gilbert Coerper in February.
I understand, money is money. I know I personally hate it when I invest in a candidate and they fail to win office and the ability to repay favors to me.
So the supervisor of elections is investigating the election? LOL
This is the best thing that could happen. If he finds wrongdoing, regardless of who did it, it ultimately is his responsibility. If he finds wrongdoing, he gets fired for cause and no golden parachute. His only option is to find himself not guilty. Such an impartial investigation.
Since this is a civil not police investigation, all his papers should be public records. I hope local news organizations keep on this and report the progress of his investigation.
Is Clovis in charge????
No, but don’t be surprised if he is hired to do an “impartial investigation.” LOL
Years ago there was an incident at the police department. Normal procedure would be to have a police investigation and have the cops testify under oath. Of course, this would make them accountable and some might get fired. This cannot happen, at least in Alachua. They hired an outside lawyer to have a “conversation” (not under oath) with the parties involved, then write a whitewash report downplaying the incident and making it go away. Since they were not under oath, cops could lie if they wanted and knew they would not suffer any consequences. For this the outside investigator go paid $10,000. Who did this pure payola ez money go to? Rod Smith. Yes that one. Certain friends of city hall get cash, the other 9500 citizens of Alachua pay and pay and pay and pay. . .
Where can we get additional information on this investigation?
Make a public records request at the city clerk’s office Monday-Thursday. Alachua is a transparent city and will gladly and promptly provide it to you.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Sorry I could not help it after writing that first paragraph.
1. Alachua County Supervisor of Elections
2. Florida Office of Election Crimes and Security
3. Federal Bureau of Investigation
Official Public Records Procedure in Alachua:
Go to the city’s stonewall.
Throw your request over.
Wait a week and receive nothing.
Complain they’re violating the state law.

Meanwhile on the city’s webpage are two pictures of an ugly mustache and Gibbie is, and is not, listed as mayor. The city manager is too busy to do his job. Fire him if he can’t update a webpage in a week. Removing a photo is not rocket science.
