Alachua County announces resurfacing and improvements to County Road 241 south of Archer
Press release from Alachua County
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Commission is pleased to announce that County Public Works is beginning the widening and resurfacing of SW 170th Street (CR 241) south of Archer on September 9, 2024. The $4.7 million project will begin at the intersection of SW 143rd Avenue and extend approximately 3.1 miles to the Levy County line. The project includes milling and paving the existing asphalt surface, widening the travel lanes to 11 feet, and adding four-foot-wide paved shoulders for improved safety.
The southern 2.5 miles is being funded by a safety grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the remainder by County general fund dollars.
“I am so excited about this and the many road projects both underway and planned,” commented Alachua County Commission Chair Mary Alford. “Between the voter-approved Wild Spaces Public Places surtax, Gas Tax, general fund dollars, and grants, the County Commission has assembled over a quarter of a billion dollars to fund our aggressive pavement management plan.”
Local paving contractor Watson Construction Company, LLC has been awarded the construction contract for the project. Please expect some delays while traveling this road during the next seven months.
Great project – paving a road that has a low density of homes… well done (eye roll)
I’d rather see them.make archer 4 lane past tower
What the heck. This is a very rural road that resufacing may help, BUT, there are much more heavily traved roads that need repaved way worse and there is absolutlely no need for shoulders on that road. Waste of tax $$$’s!
Already too much traffic going too fast on that road , resurface will make even faster traffic. More people will die from hitting the damn deer vermin
I came here in ’81 when they last did that stretch – the road crew left the string (6 miles of it) and my partner and I rolled it up. I like the current narrow profile of the road – strengthens the gene pool.
About time!!!!
RIP Sam 💙
NW 142nd in High Springs could use repaving. Lots of folks from Gilchrist county are using it for a shortcut, instead of Poe Springs road, due to heavy traffic on that road. County is doing a good job at attacking pot holes on it, but there are many that show up after every heavy rain.
CR241 from Archer to Jonesville is worse…It needs the attention as much as the current project does!
