Alachua County Equity Advisory Board invites community to listening session
Press release from Alachua County
ALACHUA COUNTY, FLa. – The Alachua County Equity Advisory Board (EAB) is hosting a listening session to gather input from the community on equity-related issues within County programs, services, and policies. The listening session is on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2025, at 6 p.m. at Greater Bethel AME Church (701 SE 43rd St., Gainesville).
The event’s goal is to foster an open dialogue and ensure the voices of all residents, especially those from communities most impacted by racial and social inequities, are heard and considered. Participants can share insights on equity challenges and opportunities in Alachua County and help shape policies and services that impact the community.
“Your voice matters,” said EAB Chair Ron Rawls. “Join us to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable future for Alachua County.”
The EAB was established to advance equity in Alachua County by developing annual work programs, advising on equity action plans, and collaborating with staff on citizen participatory research. The EAB also reviews policies, programs, and services to identify and address racial and gender bias and engages with committees, stakeholders, and organizations to promote equity (including input from disadvantaged communities in policy and program design).
Since its inception just one year ago, the EAB has studied County departments’ services and programs. This listening session will allow community members to share their experiences and perspectives on equity within County operations. Feedback will inform the EAB’s recommendations for the County’s Comprehensive Plan. Growth Management staff will also attend to provide historical context on zoning and the former Eastside Enterprise Zone designation.
The Committee on Grift is axing people for ideas on how to shovel more money from the productive people to the east side. The locals finna air out their grievances.
It’s “they” grievances. Please try to appropriate grammerz.
you got to be kidding
Not kidding.
We realize some people have neither the capacity, nor the desire to better themselves unless we do all we can to prop them up and provide them an outlet to air their frustration. We don’t recognize the accomplishments of Denzel Washington, Thomas Sowell, Morgan Freeman, Clarence Thomas, Meshon Rawls, et al. simply because they don’t share our political views and don’t provide fair examples of what may be possible with some degree of personal effort.
We’re only doing this listening session because it provides the illusion we really want to hear from individuals we personally feel are best suited providing service based labor to us and we need to maintain their subservience within the City and County we call home. We understand that certain historical figures may have been wrong and some people shouldn’t be given considerations due to their character and qualifications, but instead be given opportunities because of their ancestry.
We’re sorry these advisory boards are upsetting but some of us really need the votes to maintain our status and we know many won’t figure it out until after they’ve voted.
How about EQUALITY, not equity cr*p.
Can’t do EQUALITY because that would require all county districts to be treated equally. Only a fool would recommend that.
Enough of this crap. I see no need to artificially reward those that aren’t qualified and are unmotivated. Please make this nonsense go away.
Attending the meeting yourself is more effective than just commenting about it on AC.
What a wasteful pile of dung. Get a job.
This nonsense of Equity makes me question every time, a person’s qualifications are they here because of a quota or are they here based on merit. Let’s start Equity with every local politician only do business with minority owned businesses and only see minority doctors. Politicians use this Equity nonsense to stir the pot. To create divisiveness between people.
Think about it, what you mean to say is that every time you see a black man with a job, you assume preferential treatment through DEI or Affirmative Action. Given the history of this country and especially the south, not to mention human nature which tends toward favoring those most like ourselves, shouldn’t you assume any white man with a job benefitted from GOB (good old boy) hiring?
Why not?
That must explain why some favor shooting people like themselves rather than others.
Especially areas with low socio-economic status. One might even conclude it’s far cheaper to buy a firearm and ammunition than it is to buy a gallon of milk and some peanut butter and jelly. Let’s not forget to mention people walking hundreds of miles to a foreign country with the intent of crossing that nation’s borders illegally in the hope of having opportunities that aren’t apparent to natural citizens. Why would someone want to go to a country of people who don’t talk like them, don’t look like them? It doesn’t matter that there’s a legal process to enter that country, or that the elected leader of that country isn’t receptive – it’s worth all the risks because of the potential opportunities present in that foreign land.
Who are we to judge? Some of those people who’ve come to this country illegally have managed to do more with their lives than some who were born here. Kudos to them.
DEI is the Good Old Boy system.
I note your surrender and fold Think.
Obviously you are one of the many Dems who have NEVER had to work for a living; never had to pay taxes to support the $200+ trillion dollars provided Affirmative Action since President Kennedy enacted in the 1961! And now the AA pig has new lipstick called DEI!
It’s at SE 43rd Street church’s address. Why not accentuate the positives of the eastside, such as no rush hour traffic, lower home and rent prices, abundant trees, lakes, creeks, fishing, and no sinkholes, etc?
Why do church pastors make excuses and be political, negative instead?
ACLUSPLCDNC 👿🤡👹💩👺
Maybe they could provide a burglar bar subsidy/rebate for those who chose to live in this ‘community’?
Don’t forget, Cynthia has land that she wants to sell (unload) on the Eastside. She needs to find a need for that land. If we could look we might find other elites with similar needs.
He’s a really poor example for the youth. He was the one screaming that the white supremacists wanted to get rid of Carlee Simon. He must be connected to the super-grifter Yvonne Hayes-Hinson-Rawls. She probably tells him what to do every morning.
