Press release from Alachua County Public Schools
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – All Alachua County Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, due to the National Weather Service wind advisory and bus safety concerns. School will reopen Wed, Jan. 10.
Oh good grief. The parents who can’t get their kids to school on time will now be complaining schools are closed.
Even worse, the parents who don’t get the news will still try to drop their kids off.
🤐
If the parents are involved with their kids schooling they’ll get an alert like I did.
Up North it was snow days! Down here it’s all storms.
A snow ball fight around here is pretty much just throwing cups of water at each other.
I’m sure they will all be playing video games, etc. No wonder test scores are in the crapper.
We are a soft society. Bizarre.
You may teach your kid to do fun crafts or other things to keep them entertained, but I don’t believe that you can change the other parents mind so easily since it’s up to them to show or introduce their kid to. As a little kid, I enjoyed the fun crafts like paper planes or (attempting) origami and I’d suggest that you show them how to do some things you were interested in as well. Maybe you could start a cute tradition or family bonding time with it! Aside from that, books are great for the imagination and can actually help some with their writing skills! Or you could try to get the into drawing and turn them into the next big thing! But as a teen, I will be investing in my hobbies (aside from games) and add on to some of the cosplays for upcoming events. The creative mind is great and can be inspired by many things, including games. This is how new games are created, how new robots and inventions are thought of, and how people can be linked together from far distances. The bright side is great to look at, so please don’t think that the hobbies of the youth are so terrible and will lead the future into some horrible downfall. Also, gaming is a great outlet.
the major reason for the shut down are the 40-50 mph+ gusts forecast. probably not the best idea to be driving a big box like a school bus in that.
So, why did schools stay open for a gust of wind the last, say, 75 years?
The last 15 years our society has turned WEAK!
Lol…it’s just a storm…the climate cult is going hard in the paint in 2024! The sky is falling, the sky is falling
Let the shootings and burglaries begin..
We have evolved into a nation of victims. Soft victims!
Closed schools because of potential storms?
Pathetic
For those who don’t know the standard is 30 mph for one hour and/or frequent gusts of at least 45 mph are occurring or expected within the next 36 hours.
A lot of vehicles in motion have issues with this. Big block vehicles such as school buses and smaller vehicles are not stable or safe at such speeds.
I remember a fax about 1996 that was placed on my desk warning about small vehicles and winds.
The standard has been around a long time.
Do whatcha want. I have to drive to work in this mess.
Then again I have been proven to be an amphibious individual.
