Alachua County seeks input on Commission district maps
August 18, 2025
Press release from Alachua County
ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. – The Alachua County Commission invites citizens to share proposed maps for how County Commission districts should be drawn. This process provides an opportunity for residents to help shape the boundaries for the county.
Citizens are encouraged to submit maps that meet the following minimum requirements:
- Five Districts: Maps must contain exactly five districts, and all geographic areas of Alachua County must be included in one — and only one — district.
- Equal Population: Districts should be generally equal in population to ensure fair representation.
- Boundary Alignment: District boundaries must follow the edges of current Supervisor of Elections voting precincts or 2020 U.S. Census Blocks.
- File Format: Submissions must be provided in shapefile or KML/KMZ file formats.
The deadline for submissions will be Sept. 5, 2025.
Citizen should submit their maps online.
Any data submitted will become the property of Alachua County and will be subject to Florida Public Record laws (F.S. 119).

Lacrosse Waldo and surrounding areas lose their Vote Impact to City of Gainesville in this Map leaving almost full control to City and leaving Rural areas in Lurch without a Chance for Proper Representation
Is it determined by population or eligible voting population?
That makes huge difference.
What does it matter if we have “at large” voting ?
The people in Gainesville will elect who THEY want and what the citizens of Newberry, Alachua, High Springs, Waldo, etc want doesn’t matter.
Seems like Gainesville should be a district by itself, rather than diluting the votes of the surrounding less populated areas – that would be a smaller district as far as land goes to be equal in population. People in cities tend to vote very differently than those of us in more rural areas.
Mom, approx 1/2 the people who live in the county live in Gainesville, so there is no way to have Gainesville voters as one district.
I’ll wager Cornell will be looking over any suggestions very meticulously.
He’s not ready to relinquish his seat yet and Melrose isn’t exactly what one would call a high density population of liberal loons.
Neither is Waldo.
I wish downtown Gainesville and East Gainesville was all in the same district. West @ 43rd st SW 20th up to NW 23rd Blvd. running East all the way to Newnans Lake. one big rectangle of blue as one district. Then let the rest of the districts touch in to Gainesville and maybe, just maybe we might see a voice of conservatism in our county commission.
