Alachua County Spring Term Grand Jury indicts three defendants on homicide charges

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Alachua County Spring Term Grand Jury has indicted Tierra Scott-Franklin, 23, for first-degree homicide for allegedly drowning her infant child; the Grand Jury also indicted Nathaniel Kendrick, 26, and Geremy Navarro, 23, for first-degree homicide and other charges for allegedly shooting Zhané Sanders at Palms of Archer in 2022.

Tierra Scott-Franklin

Tierra Scott-Franklin was arrested on January 14, 2026, after she reportedly called 911 and said she drowned her baby. Responding Gainesville Police Department officers found an unresponsive 7-month-old female infant; although efforts were made to revive the infant, she was pronounced deceased at UF Health Shands. Scott-Franklin was transported to GPD Headquarters, and post Miranda, she reportedly admitted to placing the infant on her back in a bathtub that was half-filled with water. She said she left the bathroom, closed the door, and expected the victim to “go.” She said she returned after a few minutes and performed some chest compressions on the baby, but she stopped after she saw liquid coming out of the baby’s mouth.

The Spring Term Grand Jury returned a True Bill, indicting Scott-Franklin for first-degree murder.

Nathaniel Kendrick and Geremy Navarro

On June 5, 2022, Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Palms of Archer, 7117 SW Archer Road, regarding a reported drive-by shooting with one victim, identified as 16-year-old Zhané Sanders. Sanders was transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Sanders was from out of state and was in the area visiting family for a high school graduation celebration; she appears to have been an innocent bystander.

Detectives identified Kendrick and Navarro as suspects, and they were in the custody of other agencies at the time but were eventually brought to Alachua County to face charges in this case.

The Spring Term Grand Jury reviewed all the evidence, which included law enforcement testimony. The Spring Term Grand Jury returned a True Bill indicting Navarro and Kendrick for first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and shooting or throwing a deadly missile into dwellings. Kendrick was also indicted for shooting from a vehicle within 1000 feet of a person.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones received the findings from the Grand Jury. Scott-Franklin, Navarro, and Kendrick were remanded to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Department of the Jail to be held without bond on the first-degree homicide charges.
