Alachua County to host final Bicycle Pedestrian Master Plan Open House on April 15

Press release from Alachua County

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Alachua County, in collaboration with the City of Gainesville and the University of Florida, will host an open house to present and receive input on the draft Countywide Bicycle-Pedestrian Master Plan. The meeting will be held on April 15, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Alachua County Office (22712 W. Newberry Road, Newberry).

The meeting will present draft prioritized bicycle and pedestrian projects, along with other supportive policies and programs, all intended to make biking and walking safe, attractive, and comfortable choices for residents of Alachua County. This plan is informed by significant community engagement, including two previous community meetings, multiple other ‘pop-up’ engagement events, an interactive web-map, and an online survey.

This is the third and final public meeting planned for this important project.

Those who cannot attend the open house but want to share input can visit the project website and provide comments on the web map.

  • You know in Rural Alachua County we still have many Dirt Roads and yet we are planning County wide Bike paths and still haven’t provided for Residents or cars that travel dirt & mud roads to get home and to work, But your weekend Bike ride means more then common sense

    • UH, don’t move into a rural area if you don’t expect dirt roads. I’m not on a county one now but have been and didn’t complain. It keeps traffic slower and slows development and keeps the area rural. Bike lanes cost a hell of a lot less.

  • How’s this for a so called ‘master plan’. Fix the damn roads so both the cars and the bikes can use them.

  • If we are going to continue to use tax money that should be spent on roads for bike paths then we should require a registration to use the bike paths and it needs to be enforced. A very small percentage of the citizens get use out of these bike paths, yet we are all expected to pay for them. Has anyone tried driving down NW 83rd street past Santa Fe College? It’s like a mine field of potholes, but sure lets build more bike paths for the homeless to use ….
