Alachua man arrested after allegedly throwing stop sign into car windshield

ALACHUA, Fla. – Tevin Glen Duval, 30, was arrested late last night after a victim reported that he damaged her car two nights in a row.
A report from Alachua Police Department on August 23 states that the victim said Duval pulled a stop sign out of the ground at the corner of NW 142nd Terrace and NW 157th Place and threw it at her car, shattering the windshield. The incident also reportedly cost the City of Alachua over $1,000 in labor and supplies to replace the stop sign.
Duval could not be located that night, but the same victim reported the next night that he returned to her house and banged on the front door. When she didn’t let him in, she said he knocked both side mirrors off her car and tried to shatter the driver’s side front window. Duval was arrested several blocks away.
Duval has been charged with two counts of property damage over $200 and one count of property damage over $1,000 and is being held on a combined $4,000 bond. Duval has four felony convictions. In 2019, he was sentenced to 3 years of drug offender probation but violated the probation three times by failing to enter drug treatment, failing to make monthly payments as ordered, failing to report to his probation officer, and failing to complete community service hours; he was arrested in December of 2020 and sentenced to 7 months in jail.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.Â
