Alachua man arrested for attempted premeditated murder
Staff report
ALACHUA, Fla. – Jeremy Dwayne DeCoursey, Jr., 18, was arrested early this morning and charged with attempted premeditated homicide and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (juvenile) after allegedly shooting at a neighbor on September 9.
DeCoursey and the victim’s son reportedly got into a physical fight at about 8 p.m. on September 9, and the victim’s son left the area after the fight, leaving DeCoursey at his home; DeCoursey then walked from his home to the victim’s home, where the victim was standing outside. DeCoursey allegedly pointed a gun at the victim and fired multiple rounds.
The victim told Alachua Police Department officers that he ran to take cover, and DeCoursey advanced toward him, still firing. The victim said he ran away to avoid being shot.
A witness told officers that he saw the entire incident, from the physical fight with the victim’s son to the shooting. The witness reportedly said DeCoursey handed his gun to an unknown male after he stopped shooting, went back to his home to change clothes, and then left the area on foot.
Officers reportedly found fresh shell casings in the victim’s yard. Investigators determined that DeCoursey went to get a firearm after the initial fight was over and that he made a conscious decision to approach the victim and shoot at him after a “reasonable amount of time to exercise judgment or ‘cool off.'”
DeCoursey was previously convicted as a juvenile of grand theft of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a delinquent (juvenile previously convicted of a felony). Judge Susanne Ballard set bail at $1,000,000 on the arrest warrant.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Again? This is becoming far too common…ANOTHER FELON WITH A FIREARM.
I know, not what some were expecting.
It goes without saying, be prepared to protect yourself and your family, (if legally able). People coming up in your yard now to shoot you.
I am always expecting that a thug here around Gangsville might encounter my family or myself. That’s why I am legally armed, in a concealed manner, 100% of the time. Nowhere in my house is more that a few steps from a hidden weapon. My family have all been professionally trained on the proper use of weapons.
We live mostly without fear, simply because we know we are prepared. The local politicians enable and Molly-coddle thugs and their young kids and friends. One year when violent crime was still going down nation wide (remember that? 1990 to sometime in 2020 when the big blue-city liberal rioting began) Alachua County was the only county in FL where violent crime increased.
Now that’s a proper bail amount
It’s startling how many 2A-enthusiast conservatards claim to be against “gun control,” yet believe that the enforcement of laws aimed at controlling guns from getting into the hands of convicted felons will reduce crime. Square that circle for me….
It’s even more startling how many of you anti 2A idiots believe criminals will obey the laws intended to keep them from obtaining firearms. You’d rather take away protections afforded to people than offer a solution…see “defund the police.”
Squares can be considered “blocks.” It’s impossible to fill that empty blockhead of yours, can’t reason with an stupid.
libertards are plain ignorant to think those laws are aimed at keeping guns from criminals, who do not even try to legally buy guns. They steal and kill to get guns. There are plenty of laws to keep guns from criminals. Dems should get it through their thick skull: Criminals do not/will not obey laws. Laws dems pass are simply to make it harder and more expensive for legit citizens to protect themselves. You folks have installed liberal DAs and mayors who let out murderers, fail to prosecute, made bail easy by just signing a piece of paper. That’s why when the big blue city riots started in 2020, crime followed and is now through the roof under democrat leadership. Declining violent crime nationwide since 1991has totally reversed under your senile hero (bribe master, serial liar and draft dodger) Biden. Square that info!
you honestly, and i really want your honest, thought out opinion here… you honestly think that if there was a law banning guns, that people like the person in the story wouldn’t be able to get one? in that same vein, do you think this person obtained the gun for this infraction legally? riddle me this…
This is purely about the culture and the way these folks raise the boys to be gangsters and not gentleman. It’s just the beginning of this cultures future of problems…. It’s going to get way worse. Get the prisons ready.
You’re absolutely right
oh?
The name DeCoursey sounds very familiar…hmmmm…
And, when he can’t post bond within a couple of months, he will be ROR. I get it. Not right to keep some one in jail just because they don’t have bail money..
The point of a high bond IS to keep the criminal in jail. The bigger the threat to the community, the higher the bond. Seems like that’s pretty common knowledge.
All those shots and he couldn’t hit his target. Clearly, this guy needs more range time.
oh he wasn’t tryna kill him lol js tryna scare him🙏🏽
Only 18, who raised him, the DNC?
naw my momma nn daddy why wassuh?
Wonder what his street name is? Snakehead sounds appropriate?
naw his name jj why wassuh?
So…
On 09 Sep Jeremy tries to shoot/kill another guy.
On 20 Sep Jeremy is arrested.
Can someone fill in the time gap here ??
At least Judge Bullard knows how to set an appropriate bond
