Alachua man arrested for firing a pistol under the influence of alcohol near Turkey Creek

ALACHUA, Fla. – Riley Jay Kamden Abney, 21, was arrested late last night for using a gun under the influence of alcohol after numerous Turkey Creek residents reported hearing gunshots.
The gunshots were heard as early as 7 p.m. on April 1 and continued throughout the evening, with multiple social media posts asking about the source of the sounds. An Alachua Police Department officer reported that at about 10:38 p.m., he saw Abney shooting his Sig Sauer pistol at his home in the 10800 block of NW 59th Terrace, just outside the Turkey Creek neighborhood. The officer also noted that Abney had watery, bloodshot eyes and smelled like alcohol.
Abney reportedly told the officer that he had been drinking “Mad Dog” 20/20 and was just sighting in his red dot.
Abney has been charged with using a firearm under the influence of alcohol. He has one juvenile conviction from 2019; Judge Adam Lee set bail at $25,000 and prohibited him from possessing weapons and alcohol.
