Alachua man charged with possession of firearm while selling drugs

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Telvis Tashay Hall, Jr., 26, of Alachua, was arrested last night for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after a traffic stop for loud music.

At about 9:36 p.m. on December 7, a Gainesville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on Hall’s vehicle in the 4100 block of N. Main Street because he reportedly heard music coming from Hall’s vehicle from about 20 yards away.

The officer reported that Hall said he didn’t know he could be pulled over for having music audible from more than 25 feet away; he also noted that he could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle as he spoke to Hall, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle reportedly produced about 27.8 grams of marijuana, empty sandwich baggies, and a digital scale. A loaded Taurus 9mm pistol was reportedly found in the glove compartment, and Hall reportedly had a “wad” of $436 in various denominations of cash in his pocket.

Post Miranda, Hall reportedly admitted the marijuana was his but then became uncooperative and refused to answer more questions.

Based on the empty baggies, the scale, multiple denominations of cash, and the large amount of marijuana, the officer charged Hall with possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Hall has lived in the area his whole life and has no criminal convictions. Judge Donna Keim set bail at $11,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • Hmmm. Being stopped for loud music must only happen in certain parts of Gainesville. There are areas of Gainesville where neighbors are constantly subjected to loud music but nothing is ever done about it.

    • His Mom & Dad must be very proud of him with the hair, the tattoo on the neck, & the dope dealing.

  • Large amount of marijuana? Not even an ounce. Look for these charges to be bounced out of court or reduced to a misdemeanor possession charge.

  • I wish that we can be pulled over for assaulting someone’s ears. I think that’s absolutely garbage. The air is free. Why can’t we float notes in it?

    • Don’t float notes next to my house after 10pm while I’m trying to go to sleep…I have to work in the morning. Gonna call the party patrol every time.
