Alachua man found guilty of murder

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On February 6, an Alachua County Jury found Lacorrin Raheem Calhoun, 22, guilty of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery causing death.

At about 6:40 p.m. on December 9, 2022, several callers reported multiple gunshots; other callers reported that someone had been shot at One 51 Apartments located at 15139 NW 150th Road.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes of being dispatched and located a male subject near building 15139 suffering from a gunshot wound to his left side. While the victim, later identified as 22-year-old Jaquan Robinson, was being transported to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by paramedics.

While officers and paramedics were attending to Robinson, a 911 call was received from a subject who said he was shot in the back. Officers found Calhoun suffering from a gunshot wound to his armpit area in the pasture adjacent to building 15139. Calhoun was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was released from the hospital a few days later.

The Criminal Investigations Division conducted several interviews with on-scene witnesses and persons of interest. After several interviews, it was determined that the incident occurred after Calhoun tried to steal marijuana from Robinson, leading to gunfire. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Calhoun as the primary aggressor, and a warrant for his arrest was applied for and granted. Calhoun was interviewed at the police station in Alachua on December 22, 2022, and arrested on that date.

The trial, prosecuted by Assistant State Attorneys Ryan Nagel and Glenn Bryan, lasted five days, and the jury deliberated for a little over four hours before finding Calhoun “Guilty” of first-degree murder and attempted armed robbery. The jury found Calhoun “Not Guilty” of the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. Sentencing is set for March 11.

  • Interesting you can be charged for trying to steal marijuana which is illegal to have. I’m i understanding this correct Calhoun pulled a gun with intent to steal marijuana from the person whom died or did that person pull gun first and Calhoun then shot back . Just my thoughts on basically you can be charged for attempting to steal something that’s illegal

  • I know this guy. He a good dude. There is more time this story than we know.

  • He needs help. His whole family needs help. Long line of criminals and bad people in his family. So sad

  • I am still waiting for justice for my nephew that was murder in broad daylight in his car. Shot in his head a child that will give you the shirt off his back and for someone to take his life and we still don’t know why haven’t had answers and nothing has been done yet. Sometimes I feel like the justice system is a joke they pick and choose what cases they want to deal with at certain times. I don’t have understand y these young men and women rather throw their lives away to the streets than making something out of them self. This is just sad. They just put their own selves in the grave.
