Alachua Police Department continues investment in community with Shop-With-A-Cop event

Press release from City of Alachua

ALACHUA, Fla. – The Alachua Police Department (APD) is continually devoted to City of Alachua citizens through law enforcement, crime prevention and, arguably most important, community involvement.

This dedication to the community was recently evidenced by APD’s Shop-With-A-Cop event, where officers paired up with students in the community and spent the evening eating a meal and escorting them to Walmart, where the event culminated with a $100 shopping spree for each student.

“Shop-With-A-Cop not only brings joy to the children involved, but has also strengthened the bond between our officers and the community we serve,” said APD Chief Jesse Sandusky.

Additionally, APD participated in a hoagie-building competition during the grand opening of the Alachua location Wawa convenience store. APD won the competition against Alachua County Fire Rescue and was awarded a $1,000 donation to the charity of their choice, Special Olympics Florida.

“To say we are proud of our police department is an understatement,” said City Manager Mike DaRoza. “Not only because of their effective policing, but also their commitment to serving our community, young and old alike.”
