Alachua teen killed in single-vehicle crash

ALACHUA, Fla. – A 19-year-old Alachua man was killed last night when his SUV hit a tree.
Shortly after midnight on March 15, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) responded to a single-vehicle crash in the area of NW 165th Street and NW 270th Avenue. It was determined that an SUV was traveling north on NW 165th Street at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a curve, and ran off the roadway onto the east shoulder, where the front of the vehicle collided with a tree. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. According to a release from FHP, he was not wearing a seatbelt.
This incident is being investigated by FHP’s Traffic Homicide Unit. FHP was assisted by the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office and Alachua County Fire Rescue.

Parents, the easiest of the five factors to teach is wearing a seatbelt. It could have saved a life.
