Alachua woman charged with six felonies after allegedly pushing her way into residence, attacking man, and damaging TV

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Wa-Nia Alexandra Smith, 21, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with six felonies and a misdemeanor after allegedly pushing past two children to enter a residence, attacking a man in his bedroom, and damaging a television.

At about 4:38 a.m. on September 9, Smith reportedly knocked on the door of the adult victim’s residence, and one of two juvenile victims answered the door, thinking it was their father. Smith allegedly pushed the door open, shoved one of the juvenile victims to the ground, and entered without permission from the resident.

Smith allegedly pushed the adult victim aside and went to a rear bedroom, where she physically attacked a man who was in bed with an infant. The report states that the infant was placed in danger of significant bodily harm because Smith attacked the man with reckless disregard for the infant’s safety.

After the physical altercation, Smith left but allegedly threw down a television on her way out, making the television unusable.

Smith has been charged with three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm, two counts of child abuse without great bodily harm, burglary with battery, and property damage under $200.

Smith has no local adult criminal history; bail information is unavailable on weekends.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

  • How’s that Merle Haggard song go?
“And I turned twenty-one in prison doin’ life without parole,
No one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried,
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied
That leaves only me to blame ’cause Mama tried.”

Part of the problem with society today – kids don’t listen to and think they know more than their parents.

  • Oprah once mentioned (on her early talk show years ago) that the *urban* community was a “matriarchal society” and the guest actually agreed that was a positive thing. That’s how screwed up our mainstreamed culture is today, folks.
