Alachua woman hit by car and killed on CR 241

ALACHUA, Fla. – A 68-year-old Alachua woman was killed this afternoon when she was hit by a car on County Road 241.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 3:05 p.m. on June 12, a 22-year-old woman from Jacksonville was driving a sedan southbound on CR 241 near NW 83rd Lane when the car hit the 68-year-old woman in the southbound lane. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene; the driver of the sedan suffered minor injuries and was wearing a seatbelt.
This is an ongoing investigation.
How come the 22 yr old woman Didn’t see the 68 yr old in the roadway? Was she distracted,(texting?)😢
Was this suicide by auto?
What was the 68 year old doing in the southbound lane? Was there no sidewalk? Was the woman in the bike 🚲 lane?
What would happen to that woman if she was walking 🚶 in the center lane on I95 in the middle of the night with dark clothes on and no light?
I feel sorry for the 22 year old woman who hit her…it was an accident…

Although it may take a year, there will be a traffic homicide investigation that will likely include obtaining cell phone records.
The woman walking in the road that got killed was talking on her cell phone ? They need to see what kind of booze or drugs she had in her system to be jaywalking like that..
So sorry to hear this. I drive CR241 several times a week and am familiar with this area atop a treed and shady blind-hill approaching a dangerous intersection at NW 78th Ave. This is a rural location with posted speed of 55mph, often exceeded. Traffic on CR241 continues to increase as it connects the cities of Alachua, Gainesville and Jonesville. I fear for the safety of bicyclists and pedestrians in this area. The shoulder of the road is narrow and there are no sidewalks, bicycle paths or traffic lights in this area. It is also not unusual to see road-kill deer lying in the ditch here.
Well said. The speed limits on Alachua county roads (including CR 241 and 222) are far too high in some stretches, especially considering people routinely drive at least 10 mph over them. This is a concern for wildlife and humans as these once rural areas have become more developed. I do not know the specifics of this tragic accident but I hope that the county commission will consider reducing speed limits in some areas and, more importantly, ensure they are being enforced. Nothing slows people down more than seeing flashing lights pulling people over again and again. I still drive like a snail through Waldo years after their speed traps have been dismantled!
I don’t usually comment on what I read, but since I knew the woman who was killed, I felt I needed to comment. 241 is a county road and there are no sidewalks. There are many houses along this road, and the mailboxes for these houses are directly on 241. It is my understanding that she was checking her mailbox at the time she was hit. This person was a wonderful woman and she will be greatly missed. I pray for her husband and family. I also hope the young lady who was driving the car was not on her cell phone at the time, and I am sorry for the trauma she has gone through. Before people assume the worst about a person, please make sure you get more information, and if you are unable to find kind, supporting words, it may be better to save your comments.
