Alfred A. Ring Nature Park boardwalk replacement: Construction is halfway complete!

Press release from City of Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The City of Gainesville’s Wild Spaces & Public Places Department and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department are pleased to announce boardwalk improvements at Alfred A. Ring Nature Park (1801 NW 23rd Blvd.) are halfway complete. Work began in December 2024 and is expected to finish by the end of March 2025.

The boardwalks in the park have suffered significant wood rot, creating a safety hazard. The renovation work involves replacing all walking surfaces, top handrails, and any deteriorated structural members on all of the boardwalks. Additionally, new concrete ramps are being constructed at the north trailhead bridge.

The nature park will remain closed until work is completed. During this time, we encourage the public to visit any of the City’s other beautiful nature parks.

  • Hurricane damage was significant with one large tree felled in the proximal main pathway.
