Allegedly intoxicated man damaged five other cars, sent one person to the hospital

Daniel Hayden Stephens, 29, was arrested yesterday evening on four counts of DUI – Damage to Property and five counts of Hit and Run – Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Damage.

At about 7:30 p.m. last night, Stephens was traveling eastbound on NW 23rd Avenue near the intersection of Main Street and allegedly hit a vehicle from behind, causing that vehicle to hit a second vehicle. The back bumper was torn completely off the second vehicle, and the first vehicle lost control and ended up in the bushes at the side of the road. The driver of the first vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Stephens allegedly continued driving east on NW 23rd Avenue and struck another vehicle; the driver of that vehicle lost control and swerved off the roadway into two cars parked at the Credit Cars dealership. [Editor’s note: one of the victims told us the arrest report is incorrect at that point; he said that Stephens’ car hit the two cars at the dealership.] At that point, Stephens allegedly got out of his vehicle, paced around, and then left the scene on foot. Victims and witnesses reported to law enforcement that Stephens never checked to see if the other drivers needed medical attention or provided his information to the other drivers.

A K9 later tracked Stephens to the Pointe 23 apartment complex, where he was arrested. He was transported to the hospital, where he was reportedly “combative” with hospital staff and became very agitated. Medical staff reported that Stephens’ blood alcohol level was .234.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
