APD asks public for help in investigation of the theft of $200k in jewelry
Staff report
ALACHUA, Fla. – Alachua Police Department (APD) is asking the public for help in their investigation of a jewelry store burglary that occurred early on the morning of Saturday, October 25.
At about 1:40 a.m. on October 25, APD officers responded to Fundora Jewelry (15202 NW 147th Drive, Suite 400) in the Rolling Oaks Plaza near the old Hitchcock’s Supermarket. Officers found the business locked, with no signs of a disturbance, but the officers returned at about 5 a.m., met with the owner, and found that the suspect(s) had cut a hole through the roof and forced open a safe; about $200,000 in jewelry was stolen.
Detectives believe that the suspects’ car was parked along NW 151st Boulevard and that the suspects walked to the rear of the business and used a ladder to climb to the roof.
Anyone who may have seen a car in that area or any unusual activity between 1:00 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on October 25 is asked to contact Detective Williams at twilliams@alachuapd.org. Residents along NW 151st Boulevard are also asked to review home security camera footage for any activity during that time.
Anyone with information can also contact Alachua County Crime Stoppers Inc anonymously at (352) 372-7867 or via their website at https://loom.ly/Np9i6dk. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through APD’s website at https://loom.ly/7uR9tR4 or via their mobile phone app.

No surveillance/security cameras within business. Oddly there are many small businesses with less valuable items that have security.
Looks fishy. WTF buys jewelry from a place called Fundora? Is it Canal Street rejects?
It sounds like the officers went to answer an alarm call at the time the place was being robbed, and that they checked the front door, found it locked, and went on their merry way. Didn’t they check behind the business to see if there was a ladder leaning against the building? Sheesh….it seems like they could have possibly prevented this…
