APD investigating hotel robbery in Alachua

Staff report

ALACHUA, Fla. – Alachua Police Department is seeking help from the public in identifying a male suspect who robbed the Royal Inn yesterday at about 10:28 a.m.

On Saturday, May 11, at 10:28 a.m., the black male entered the lobby of the Royal Inn (16305 NW 162nd Lane), walked past the clerk, went behind the counter, and took cash from the register. The suspect can be heard telling the clerk, “Lady, if you don’t want to die today, don’t move.” He continued to repeat similar phrases as he walked out with cash from the register. After leaving the hotel, the suspect ran eastbound toward the Circle K/Wendy’s.

The suspect is a black male, approximately 5’10” tall, of slender build, and was wearing an unzipped black hoodie, no shirt, light-colored blue jeans with designed rear pockets, black shoes, a gold chain, a red bandanna around his face, and gloves.

Surveillance video from the incident can be viewed here.

  • I will be so glad when these crime statistics no longer get reported in Alachua County, but get reported in the conservative utopia of Springs County. Springs County gonna be a crime ridden S hole.

  • These businesses need better security cameras. How can this person be identified with this photo? Good luck finding him. I am glad the clerk was not injured.

  • Barriers should be taught in public schools, along with Personal Finance and Home Ec. Not just taught one day, but for a year.
Alachua town has plenty of job opportunities for young adults. If they know how to set an alarm, show up on time, and not get girlfriends pregnant. 🙃

  • After leaving the hotel, the suspect ran eastbound toward the Circle K/Wendy’s . . . My guesss is that he was driven
to this sad act from desperation for Wendy’s Maple Bacon Chicken Croissant Combo with a large Classic Chocolate Frosty. The Circle K’s offerings just aren’t worth risking the rap.

  • Watch the video, the thief knew exactly which drawer had the cash and also knew that it would be unlocked, zero hesitation or searching.

He has been there before and may have help from an inside person.

  • Probably that guy that was release on no bail for pending sentencing and additional charges.
