Application period opens for new Gainesville downtown events grant program
Press release from City of Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Gainesville Community Reinvestment Area (GCRA) is launching a new grants program to provide funding to businesses and organizations that are scheduling upcoming events in Downtown Gainesville.
The application period for the Downtown Events Grant Program is now open and the application form is available online. Grants up to $5,000 each will be awarded. Funding may be used for event-related expenses such as advertising, equipment or facilities rental, entertainment, etc.
Earlier this month, the Gainesville City Commission approved an initial $50,000 to fund the pilot program. GCRA will accept applications until the funding limit has been reached. Non-profit organizations also are eligible to apply; government entities are not eligible.
Events must take place between June 1 and December 31, 2024, in publicly owned space (parks, roads, etc.) within the program map. Events must be open to the general public. Additional eligibility requirements are available online.
GCRA is a department of the City of Gainesville whose mission includes revitalizing the urban core and supporting the local economy.
Maybe someone can host a turkey shoot instead of a running man shoot.
I’d like to see a crime map overlaid on the area as a “before” and another in two years. Is it possible to divert crime through investing in this type of area?
While I enjoy a vibrant city with free events to attend, it seems like it should be “need to do vs. nice to do” given the city’s current fiscal situation. This is a nice to do. We need to focus on the need to do. All this hand wringing about budget shortfalls but yet we have $50,000 to fund event organizers.
