April 24 Special School Board Meeting to ratify contract for instructional personnel

Public notice

NOTICE OF SPECIAL SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

The School Board Alachua County, Florida, shall hold a special board meeting to which all persons are invited.

DATE AND TIME: Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.

LOCATION: District Office Board room 620 East University Avenue Gainesville, FL 32601

PURPOSE:

  • Ratification of Amendments to the 2024-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement for Instructional Personnel
  • Adoption of Salary Schedules for the 2024-2025 Fiscal Year

  • Imagine rejecting a salary offer only to accept a lower offer 3 months later. I had hope for our teachers but when it comes to ACPS, maybe it really is just the blind leading the blind. A black eye for all involved.

    • This deal allowed for elementary teachers to get their Wednesday planning time back. The original 1.6% deal didn’t include that.

    • Just like when you were in school, do your homework before you comment.

  • Looks like Tina Certainly got her wish. I’ll bet the SBAC’s next vote for their own raise won’t be 1.3%. They’re likely to give the current superintendent a 5% “thanks for kissing our asses” raise as well as another 10% raise when this current contract expires.

Tina needs to take the new contract and shove it where the sun don’t shine. She’s consistently shown she has no respect for teachers and could care less about the financial challenges they face.

As for Carmen Ward, if any of the Union members have any common sense and intelligence, you’ll be canning her ass as your Union President. She’s failed you at every level. I guess we’ve become accustomed to the failures within the Alachua County School District.

  • These incompetents can’t even use the simple word ‘teachers’. They have to show off with ‘instructional personnel’. I wonder if the DEI ‘instructional personnel’ even understand the term.

  • Mu understanding is they got 1.3%, and also continued having one abbreviated workday a week for some teachers, which was the roadblock on the original proposal.

  • At the end of the day, the school board made a point that the teachers aren’t as valued as the superintendent.
The teachers get a 1.3% raise, the superintendent got a 20% raise.
Despite what many liberal Democrats claim, they only favor equity when it suits their personal agendas.

  • Carmen Ward, the ACEA President said, “5% or 10% for a two year agreement”. What negotiator says something like that? You should say you want 10% and then settle on 5%. If you try to sell me an item and you say I will take $5 or $10 dollars for it, you bet my offer will never be over $5.
