Archer man arrested for pointing gun at stranger on Williston Road
Staff report
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – James Hansel Montgomery, 21, of Archer, was arrested early this morning and charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors after allegedly pointing a gun at a stranger from the window of his vehicle.
At about 7:31 p.m., a Gainesville Police Department Officer responded to the 400 block of SE Williston Road, where the victim said she had gotten into an argument with a man she didn’t know while driving, and he pointed a handgun at her from the driver’s seat of his vehicle. She said she was afraid he would shoot her, so she called law enforcement. She described the driver and his car and provided the tag number to the dispatcher.
The officer located Montgomery’s vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Montgomery reportedly consented to a search of his vehicle that produced an empty holster, 26.6 grams of pills that tested positive for fentanyl, four containers with a total of 18.61 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, and $300 in cash. The arresting officer noted that the drugs and packaging were “all consistent with illegal drug sales and distribution.”
A passenger in Montgomery’s car reportedly said Montgomery had been angry with the victim and pointed a gun at her. He said he snatched the gun from Montgomery and threw it out the window because Montgomery was panicking and he was afraid the gun would go off. The description of the gun provided by the passenger matched the description provided by the victim.
The arrest report does not mention whether the firearm was located.
Montgomery has been charged with possession of trafficking quantities of fentanyl, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Montgomery has four felony convictions (none violent) and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). Judge Susan Miller-Jones ordered him held without bail on the fentanyl trafficking charge, pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial. She set bail at $254,000 on the other charges.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
4 felony convictions and in possession of fentanyl and a gun. Throw the book at him. 20 years will do him so good and maybe get that butt hole on his chin fixed.
Oh my gosh, now I can’t see that lol
What a freaking moron.
As a gun owner (40 plus ) I can say this stupid idiot doesn’t understand common sense he got off lucky if you point a gun at me you better pull the trigger because I am going to defend myself and I don’t fire warning shots
The election season is scaring judges and govt lawyers. Don’t be fooled…
