Archer man arrested for threatening to batter woman and injuring deputy

ARCHER, Fla. – Quinnell Lavon Thompson, 45, was arrested yesterday and charged with threatening to beat up a woman, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence, and battery on a deputy.

At about 1:24 p.m. on October 23, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a call from a woman who said Thompson had threatened her.

The deputy reported that when he arrived, Thompson was on one side of the road and the victim was across the street from him. The deputy spoke first to Thompson, who reportedly yelled at the deputy and said the deputy should not be talking to him first because he did not call. The deputy told Thompson to come speak with him, and Thompson allegedly refused. The deputy reported that he ordered Thompson to stop, but he kept walking. The deputy reported that after he drew his taser, he was able to handcuff and arrest Thompson for resisting an officer without violence.

The deputy reported that after Thompson was arrested, he was pulling away. When the deputy tried to put him into his patrol vehicle, Thompson allegedly intentionally hit the deputy with his elbow, causing a laceration when the deputy’s hand was knocked into his uniform tools.

The victim and witness both reportedly said that Thompson became upset because he did not like what the witness was doing with the victim’s leaves; they both said that Thompson threatened to beat up the victim while advancing toward her from about six feet away with his hands balled into fists.

Thompson has eight felony convictions (six violent) and 14 misdemeanor convictions (two violent); he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2011. In March, he was convicted of pulling a knife on a convenience store clerk and sentenced to six months of community control (house arrest), followed by 30 months of probation. There are no updates in that court docket to indicate that he is no longer on probation, and Department of Corrections records indicate that he is on probation through March 2027, although under an alias (Quindell Devon Thompson, with the same birth date), but today’s court record states that he is not on probation, possibly due to confusion over the alias. Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $55,000.
