Archer man on probation arrested for punching bartender and resisting arrest

Staff report

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Brent Thomas Rodgers, 26, of Archer, was arrested late last night for allegedly punching a bartender.

At about 11:35 p.m. on October 31, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a bar in Town of Tioga, where the bartender said Rodgers had argued with him while intoxicated and had intentionally punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. The business reportedly provided surveillance video of the incident to the deputy.

A witness reportedly said the bartender had just turned his face away when Rodgers “sucker-punched” him.

Rodgers reportedly left the bar and went into a neighboring establishment, where deputies found him. When a deputy told him to stand up so he could be placed in handcuffs, Rodgers allegedly pulled away and said he would not comply. The deputy escorted Rodgers to the ground and handcuffed him.

A search incident to arrest reportedly produced a hollow-point .22 LR bullet in Rodgers’ pocket; as a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing ammunition.

Post Miranda, Rodgers reportedly declined to answer any questions without a lawyer.

Rodgers has been charged with felony battery with a prior conviction, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, and resisting an officer without violence. He has one felony conviction (non-violent) and two misdemeanor convictions (one violent). He was arrested in 2024 for fleeing from law enforcement and entered into a pre-trial diversion agreement, but the agreement was revoked after he was arrested in March 2025 for domestic battery. After entering pleas in both cases, he was sentenced to 23 days in jail with credit for 23 days served, followed by 13 months of probation, in June for the fleeing case, and he was sentenced to a year of probation in the domestic battery case in July.

Judge Meshon Rawls set bail at $175,000.

  • Drunk Coward Arrested for Sucker Punching Bartender Should be the Title unless Title is Man Who Loves to Fight finds Plenty willing to accommodate him in Jail

  • Credit for 23 of 23 days time served. Well thank you very much judge! Don’t mind if you adjudicate me guilty, it really means nothing.

  • Yet again……pretrial release. These judges are making our community less safe decision by decision.

  • This is the result of permissive parenting. Everyone gets a trophy and ” the teacher gave you a bad grade.” Adults who think rules/laws don’t apply to them. Pathetic and sad. His punk ass smirk speaks volumes.
