Archer man, two Gainesville women killed in Newberry Road crash
Staff report from Florida Highway Patrol release
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – An Archer man and two Gainesville women were killed this morning when a motorcycle hit a car pulling out onto Newberry Road.
At about 11:30 a.m., a motorcycle driven by a 31-year-old Archer man hit a sedan that was pulling out onto Newberry Road from NW 109th Street; the impact caused the sedan to overturn. The motorcyclist; the driver of the sedan, a 59-year-old Gainesville woman; and the sedan’s 90-year-old female passenger, also from Gainesville, were pronounced deceased at the scene.
According to the release, the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet, and the driver of the sedan was wearing a seatbelt; the release does not say whether the 90-year-old passenger was wearing a seatbelt.
The crash is still under investigation.
Sounds like one of the far too many motorcyclists racing down our roads at a high rate of speed. And before the peanut gallery starts chirping, realize that the force of the impact by the motorcycle was great enough to overturn the vehicle. That only happens at a high rate of speed.
The speed limit is what, 50-55 right there? Everyone and their mother does at least 60. Nobody in this town stops for stop signs so there’s a very good chance the car never stopped and never saw the motorcycle and he t-boned them at 60mph. Should be plenty of force to overturn a small sedan. Nice try though. Even AI agrees with me and it’s never wrong, lol! I think you’d be shocked was 500lbs of motocyle travel 60mph can do to a car.
Witnesses said motorcycle was doing over 100 mph.
I believe the speed limit at most intersections on Newberry Rd fall to 45 west of the interstate.
I don’t know what happened; I wasn’t there and haven’t seen pictures but usually the damage described is from one of two causes, a vehicle traveling at an extreme speed, or the vehicle having a high density or weight. Motorcycles don’t usually possess the weight to cause that damage alone unless they’re touring bikes and traveling at high speeds.
Another tragic accident that probably could have been avoided.
I completely stop at all stop signs, regardless where I am. I follow all speed limits too. I believe the motorcycle was speeding too, however you can’t include “everybody” disobeys road laws.
I knew the motorcyclist personally. He was definitely going faster ..he was known to do wheelies to …also two of my homes wad behind him when it happened. Sad af but you gotta do the speed limit around here and be aware of vehicles
60 mph? I doubt it.
A 500lb motorcycle at 60mph broadsiding a smaller car at that speed can certainly over turn it and kill the occupants. I agree. I also saw the motorcycle seconds before. He was certainly close to a 100mph. I think maybe over. What is it with some of these cycle jockey’s? A death wish? Bullet proof? Thats not a dig in anyway at all bikers. The majority of them are safe riders. Just a memo to the ones that arent. To steal a line. If you want to turn yourself into a little greasy spot on a highway, no problem. Just try and do it elsewhere.
The van driver pulled out ifo the mc!!!! It was her fault!
But the driver would have made a correct judgement had the motorcycle been going the speed limit.
I saw the car on a tow truck. That MC was going 100mph easily. Car was folded like a taco, and flipped it. Not sure about whose fault it was. Either way RIP.
Thanks JW for your comment bc these people do have families an it’s sad tht they all lost there lives..
Who cares whose fault it was? Three people are dead!
Your 100% incorrect. The motorcycle was at fault and doing over 90 miles an hour.
He was doing well over 100 mph !!!! Not her fault
Don’t matter now who’s fault does it. Shame either way that 3 lives were taken.rip is all left to say about this.
And the fact that it literally almost bent the car in half. Bike was definitely flying!
The mother of the MC had to go home and tell 2 small children their daddy is gone. So think before you speak. These are people not a demographic
The operator of the motorcycle should have thought of that before driving the way he did.
He should have thought about his kids before driving reckless and killing two people.
He should have thought of his children before he drove 100 mph
My coworker had to leave work due to this accident, and her mother is now deceased. A lot of people lost loved ones here.
do we know the poor people who died in this horific accident?
Yep
All three had kids. Your statement is one sided just for the guy on the MC. Prayers to all who died and all families.
do we know who the poor people were that died yet?
He killed two people driving like a jerk. Sorry, not sorry.
Thank you cause I’ve almost scratched a patch out of my hair trying to figure out how in the hell the care was flipped. 🤦🏾♀️ I see them flying down Archer road all the time and I think to myself, if a car stops abruptly or if a car pulls out unto Archer Rd there would be no way he could stop in time. May God rest their souls. My heartfelt condolences to the families.
Sounds like one to many ppl pulling out and not paying attention…..
m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v1′ + m2v2; where m1 and m2 are the masses of the two objects, v1 and v2 are their initial velocities, and v1′ and v2′ are their final velocities after the collision.
Someone is bound to lose and unfortunately some families lost a loved one.
Remember, not all lights are Christmas lights and some may be flying motorcycles – not flying reindeer.
Saw both vehicles being hauled away west on Newberry. Looked like an older Honda civic (silver) on one truck and what looked like half a m/c on the other. The impact on the sedan was right at the driver’s door with the entire driver’s side pushed completely over into the passenger side. The wrecked sedan looked more like a horseshoe than a car. The sedan obviously was t- boned by the m/c. The m/c was smashed in like a beer can. After seeing the wrecks, it was hard to imagine how anyone in the sedan could have survived. I only learned after reading here that all involved were killed at the scene. A truly sad event anytime, but certainly more so now.
Car was tacoed. 100mph
Type/make of motorcycle may imply the ride, crotch rocket or leisure type.
Wait for more info before drawing a conclusion and passing blame.
I live on W Newberry Rd near this area. When I’m outdoors I hear the motorcycles racing their engines going very fast in this road quite often. Where are the cops to enforce speed limits in this road and many other roads in this area?
This will continue until there is a police presence. Sad way to spend Christmas for these families. My condolences to the families.
Families just lost loved ones and you guys are only talking about who did wrong . You should be praying for the families who received bad news.
That is so hard to believe
Praying for the families 🙏 this is so sad and tragic 😭
Everybody knows people speed too much on Newberry Road. Main Street is another problem area, near the car dealerships. Somebody crashed into a building there just last month. We need a lot less “homeless” (stop all entitlements) and a lot more police. I guess we need to give Harvey, Corny, etc. the boot since they won’t ever change. Our “LEADERS” lol.
Live nearby right off Newberry road and I hear motorcycles ‘screaming’ down 26 all hours of the day and night. I’ve been telling myself this wouldn’t end well….and it didn’t. RIP
Motorcycle was traveling at such a high speed that it overturned the vehicle. Think about the velocity at which a motorcycle needs to be traveling to overturn a car. The troopers found the head of the deceased motorcyclist over 150 yards from the crash. Truly reckless driving. Speed kills folks.
So, on Parker road, there is subdivision called Flint Rock. I was working there yesterday morning, and I seen two motorcyclist duking it out on the long stretch of Parker road. All the contactors working there yesterday heard the two bikes screaming down Parker road from Archer way. They droned out of earshot into Jonesviille. Then about 15 minutes later, we seen FHP, and ACSO units racing towards Jonesviille.
Had no idea people got killed until this today. 😞
Crap reporting. The motorcyclists were exceeding 100mph. They are guilty of manslaughter at a minimum.
Can somebody tell me where NW 109th St is? Map shows NW 109th Drive across from Rock Church, on north side of Newberry Rd. Other commenter says motorcycle came from Parker Rd, so he must have been going East. If car pulled across from North, then he would have hit passenger side, not driver side. Can anyone clarify? Just curious.
Any know identity of the two car passengers? I already know who the MC guy was.
Did you find out who the poor people were that died?
Obviously he wasn’t thinking of anyone other than his own “thrill ” I guess. Big problem these days! Unfortunately the lives of many others will forever be changed. Can’t imagine being a loved one of either of the three people and have to deal with this every year at Christmas time. Heart felt thoughts and prayers for all who are effected.
Did anyone find out who the poor people were?
If the mc was headed west, there is a rise in the road on Newberry just before (east) of the crash site at 109th which might have made it harder for the car leaving the side road, particularly if the mc was speeding.
Curiously, there is a yellow intersection sign headed westbound between 107 and 109, so perhaps the highway department knew there was a hazard there worse than the pull-from 107, which doesn’t have a similar sign before it.
Not blaming anyone, but it seems the highway design could have also contributed. Often developers are prohibited from putting driveways or side-streets in similar locations.
does anyone know who the people were who died…
