But I thought that the paid but unhoused and questionably washed ambassadors would be the official civic greeters for visitors to our fair city, not ambassadors to the unhoused–that seems circular.

Yeah, because Jake is onto the fact that homelessness is only a problem in Gainesville and there are none in Ocala.

Our MAGA governor just signed a bill requiring Florida cities and counties to have alternative shelter available before police can arrest the homeless for sleeping in parks and on sidewalks. That’s because courts have established that principle and the ones fighting a strict interpretation of it include Gov Newsome in California and the governors of Oregon and Washington.
You can invite them to your enclave.

When I was a kid decades ago, I enjoyed Jake’s comics. I don’t remember them being so blatantly mean + political back then. I wish folks could just get along and work together, the casual cruelty needs to stop.
