Barbergators Chorus to perform at St. Patrick Catholic Church

Press release from Barbergators Chorus

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – St. Patrick Catholic Church’s 3rd Friday concert series will feature the Barbergators Chorus on February 16.

The Barbergators Chorus concert will feature the chorus and quartets singing songs from their repertoire and a preview of songs from their upcoming 50th Anniversary Show. “We got our start way back in 1973,” said Dave Jacobs, chorus president and associate director. “I’ve been with the chorus for almost 40 of those years.”

The concert will also feature “Time of Our Lives,” a quartet that includes Jacobs, chorus director Mark Slamka, John Dew, and Tyson Adams. They were honored to perform songs from The Music Man with the Gainesville Orchestra last year.

The 3rd Friday concert series is fairly new and is growing.

“We started the 3rd Friday Concert series in order to help our church support the local arts”, said Father Lawrence Peck, pastor of St. Patrick Church. “We praise God for the beautiful gift of music that we have here in Gainesville.”

“The beauty of music can have a profound effect on us. We can all use more joy in our lives, so we hope the variety of acts we bring allows our guests to feel that joy, while, at the same time, supporting those groups who work so hard to share their talents.”

The concert series is in its third year. It has featured both sacred and secular music and performers ranging from jazz with Dacyo McDuffie and Larry and Jake Newcomb to the Annasemble Community Chamber Orchestra.

The Barbergators Chorus is not the first a cappella group to perform in the concert series, which has also featured Gregorian chant and the Gainesville Harmony Show Chorus in the past.

The concert will take place at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 500 NE 16th Ave, Gainesville, FL 32601 on Friday, February 16. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m., following vespers at 6:40.

The Barbergators Chorus is a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and has been part of the Gainesville community since 1973. The chorus rehearses Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3146 NW 13th St, Gainesville, FL.  Singers are always welcome.
