Battery charge filed against former Newberry City Commission candidate

Newberry City Commission candidate Brandy Oldman argues with a woman after a candidate forum on March 29

Staff report

NEWBERRY, Fla. – Brandy Lee Oldman, 41, has been charged with battery via sworn complaint for allegedly slapping a woman’s phone out of her hand after a March 29 forum for Newberry City Commission candidates.

At about 3:15 p.m. on March 29, Oldman and the victim were arguing when Oldman allegedly advanced on the victim, who was recording the argument, and slapped the victim’s phone out of her hand.

A witness reportedly intervened to prevent the incident from escalating, and her account of the incident reportedly corroborated the victim’s account.

The sworn complaint states that Oldman was charged via sworn complaint due to compliance at the scene and her lack of criminal history.

The court system does not show a Notice to Appear or a warrant for Oldman’s arrest.

  • The photo AC uses for articles on this story! 😂

A picture paints a thousand words in action.

    • You’re slipping, usually you are the first to comment with your “springs county” nonsense.

  • Grimace needs to put a purple face diaper on like Rockwell. Certain things should be hidden it scares kids.

  • History will show she ultimately got exactly what she asked for after now “catching a charge.” Hopefully, ACPS takes a serious look at whether this behavior reflects the standard expected of someone serving on a parent advisory board. Funny how quiet she is now right when there isn’t an election going on?

Newberry has made it clear this type of conduct and rhetoric is not what our community stands for. The voters spoke loudly on 4/14, rejecting both her behavior and the agenda being pushed; regardless of how much Gainesville political backing or outside support came from Vu, Rockwell, or Certain. Take note and remember when you need to vote for next ACPS and County Commissioner elections.
