Updated to correct the gender of the sedan driver.
ALACHUA, Fla. – A Bell man was killed and two others were seriously injured in a crash this afternoon at the intersection of County Road 235 and NW 78th Avenue.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, at about 3:06 p.m. on November 19, the 83-year-old Bell man was driving a pickup truck eastbound on NW 78th Avenue and entered the intersection with CR 235 in front of a southbound sedan, driven by a 39-year-old Archer woman. The driver of the pickup truck succumbed to his injuries, and his 33-year-old female passenger, also from Bell, was seriously injured. The Archer woman was also seriously injured. According to the report, the two drivers were not wearing seatbelts, but the female passenger was.

How many people have to die at this intersection before a traffic light that stops the traffic gets installed? Lived here 40 years and there are accidents here weekly and almost daily….fatalities almost monthly. With the construction trucks running at high speeds and not the speed limit –it is 4 decades past time to put in an actual traffic light.
It is dangerous, but I wonder if reconstruction so that the 78th Ave approaches are at 90deg, thus aiding in seeing oncoming traffic on 235 would mostly solve it.
