Belleview man on probation for gun crimes arrested for possession of a firearm by officer investigating gunshot

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Luis Antonio Gomez-Mateos, 19, of Belleview, was arrested early yesterday morning and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after an officer investigating a shot fired from a vehicle reportedly found a gun under his seat. Gomez-Mateos is on probation following a Marion County conviction for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent.

A Gainesville Police Department officer investigating a shot fired from a vehicle in the 1200 block of SE 19th Terrace at about 2:30 a.m. on August 3 reportedly saw Gomez-Mateos making “furtive movements” in the vehicle and found a gun under his seat.

Post Miranda, Gomez-Mateos reportedly admitted to possessing and firing the gun, but he was not charged with firing it.

Gomez-Mateos has juvenile criminal convictions between 2015 and 2019 and three adult felony convictions (two violent). He is on probation until 2027 on the Marion County convictions.

Judge Walter Green set bail at $25,000 with a requirement that Gomez-Mateos report to his probation officer within 24 hours of release.
