Blue Compass RV employee fatally injured in forklift accident

Updated on February 6 with the identity of the deceased man.

ALACHUA, Fla. – An employee of Blue Compass RV was fatally injured this morning in a forklift accident; after his next of kin was notified, Alachua Police Department stated that he had been identified as James Selby, 51, of Starke.

At approximately 11:07 a.m. on February 5, a commercial accident occurred outdoors at Blue Compass RV, located at 12380 NW U.S. Highway 441, Alachua, resulting in the death of an employee.

The Alachua Police Department was notified, and officers were dispatched at 11:10 a.m., arriving on scene at 11:15 a.m. Alachua County Fire Rescue also responded and transported the employee to UF Health Shands Hospital, where the individual was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary information indicates the employee was riding alongside a large outdoor forklift, jumped off, and was subsequently run over. The incident occurred outside the facility.

This incident remains under active investigation. The identity of the deceased will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
