Blue Gill Quality Foods, a local family-owned restaurant, is relocating to Butler Town Center

Press release from Butler Enterprises

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Blue Gill Quality Foods will be relocating to Butler Shopping Center District this summer. Blue Gill originally opened in southwest Gainesville in June of 2011. Blue Gill is locally owned and operated by Tara and Bert Gill, who also own and operate Mildred’s Big City Food and the New Deal Café. Blue Gill will be located at 2917 SW 35th Drive, here at Butler Town Center, and will initially have the following hours of operation: Monday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday closed, Wednesday-Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Dinner reservations are strongly recommended. Blue Gill will offer offsite catering services as well.

Blue Gill will serve eclectic local cuisine with a southern flair, including their beloved fried green tomatoes, buffalo cauliflower, pork rind fried chicken, shrimp and grits, crispy arancini, fried pie, and made-to-order frozen custard. Their new menu will include raw bar items, lobster, and daily specials, along with locally sourced produce, seafood, and beef.  Blue Gill will also offer a full bar with a wide selection of local draft beer, wine, and craft cocktails.

Chef Bert Gill and his family have been longtime major supporters of farmers in North Central Florida and will continue to support locally grown sustainable agriculture at their new location at Butler Town Center.

  • Overpriced food with new location! I hope it’s worth to move! Good luck!

  • Will Bonefish close at Butler east, nearby there — or has it already?
Sorry the ShandsUF complex couldn’t support a local eatery, but sign of the times…

  • This is a big improvement, the parking for the place on 13th Street was dark in the evening and few other business in their building were open during dinner hours.

  • Chef Bert Gill needs to learn how to correctly make ‘fried green tomatoes’. We were slack jawed at what was set before us when we ordered fried green tomatoes. Harry’s has decent FGT or watch some YouTube cooking shows to learn what to use and how to cook them. He can take offense or he can up his game, I’m just sayin’..
