Board of Governors tells state universities to “recommend, rather than require” facial coverings

BY JENNIFER CABRERA
An email distributed to state university presidents on May 7 from the Board of Governors Strategic Communications Office instructed them to “continue to follow CDC guidelines and recommend, rather than require, the wearing of face coverings indoors.”
Good afternoon Board members and Presidents,
The State University System of Florida recognizes the enormous efforts of our Governor, the Florida Department of Health, the Division of Emergency Management, and university leadership to encourage vaccinations across our campuses. In light of that effort, and as an update to previous guidance, the System will continue to follow CDC guidelines and recommend, rather than require, the wearing of face coverings indoors.Â
A number of universities have since dropped their requirements for facial coverings on campus, including FSU, UCF, FAU, and FGCU. The University of Florida has not yet made any announcement.
UF is probably waiting to hear what King Poe and his court rule on the subject.
Or should I say “over” their subjects?
This is great news! UF needs to get with the program, Also, childrren in the public school
System shouldn’t have to wear masks. The ACSB
