Bob Jones: New High Springs City Commissioner should prioritize preservation of the city’s character

Letter to the editor

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Wayne Bloodsworth, who has been elected to the esteemed High Springs City Commission.

As you take on this important role, I kindly urge you to prioritize the preservation and enforcement of the ordinances that have long served as the backbone of our city’s governance. These ordinances are not mere suggestions but rather essential laws that must be adhered to without exception. While we recognize that growth is inevitable, it is crucial that we approach it with great caution, ensuring that our cherished heritage buildings and communities remain intact.

We must strive to prevent the transformation of our city into a reckless party hub, plagued by the devastating consequences of drunk driving accidents along key routes such as 441, 41, and Highway 27. As we move forward, let us learn from the experiences of others. Some cities have flourished, while others have regrettably faltered. Let us be guided by wisdom, prudence, and a steadfast commitment to the betterment of our community.

Bob Jones, High Springs

  • Congratulations to our newest High Springs commissioner, the citizens came out to vote you in, with faith and trust we look forward to you Wayne and the other commissioners doing your part to protect the Historical integrity of High Springs, there is no need to have an amplified noisy entertainment district anywhere near ‘The Real Heart of High Springs’

  • I too wish to congratulate Commissioner Bloodsworth. While I do not have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Bloodsworth personally, I understand that he has an impeccable reputation among our community and I look forward to seeing his vast knowledge applied to the important decision making that will be in the best interest of our entire community.

    • Kudos to Commissioner Wayne Bloodsworth for bringing attention to a significant error in judgment by the Dias. He asked a clarifying question as a motion was being made. Commissioner Bloodsworth, asked, “So let me get this straight, we are going to continue to do something wrong because we have done it wrong in the past?” This is exactly the kind of dialog we need from our commissioners. Thank you for maintaining rules that have been unanimously voted on based on residents wishes.

  • I, too, look forward to Wayne’s tenure on the commission. His life-long love of this community speaks volumes about his commitment. Welcome!!

  • I would like to add that Commissioner Bloodsworth pointed out a significant error by the Dias. It was suggested that a decision was being made based on past practice, rather than adhering to the ordinances that were firmly established 4 years ago. He said something to this effect, ” So let me get this straight, we are going to contintue to do something wrong because we have been doing it wrong in the past?”

Kudos to you, Commissioner Bloodsworth, for speaking up for the majority of the residents in High Springs. This is exactly what we need with the Commissioners’ on our Dias.
