Boyer: Your financial support will help ASWCD foster environmental stewardship

Letter to the editor
The Alachua Soil & Water Conservation District’s (ASWCD) mission is to educate and engage our community, particularly our K-12 children, in sustainable land and water management practices. We are dedicated to fostering environmental stewardship and empowering the next generation with knowledge about soil and water conservation. To achieve this, we have been actively involved in educational initiatives such as Land Judging, Poster Contests, Speech Contests, and our flagship event, the Envirothon. These programs play a vital role in educating our youth about the importance of conserving our natural resources and promoting responsible environmental practices.
However, to sustain and expand these initiatives, we require partners willing to provide financial support. Your contribution will directly impact the success of these programs, allowing us to provide educational materials, resources, and opportunities for students in our community. By investing in these programs, you will be helping to shape the future of our environment and nurture the leaders of tomorrow who will champion sustainability.
In addition to our educational efforts, ASWCD also seeks to recognize and celebrate local farmers who implement Best Land Management Practices. We plan to host a banquet where we will randomly select and honor a recognized farmer for their commitment to sustainable agriculture. This event will not only showcase the exemplary work of our local farmers but also encourage others to adopt similar practices for the benefit of our environment.
Furthermore, our banquet will serve as a platform to acknowledge and reward the achievements of school children who participate in our educational programs. By recognizing their dedication and efforts, we hope to inspire more students to engage in environmental conservation and become responsible stewards of our natural resources.
Your support is invaluable to the success of these endeavors. We kindly request your financial contribution to help us continue our vital educational and community-building work. Your generosity will make a meaningful impact on the future of our environment and the development of our young leaders.
If you are interested in supporting ASWCD or would like to discuss this opportunity further, please feel free to contact us at AlachuaSWCD1@gmail.com
Thank you for considering our request for support. Together, we can make a significant difference in the conservation efforts within the Alachua community and beyond.
Sincerely,
Walt Boyer
Chairman

Keep it at one dwelling per acre. Ten acres in the ‘burbs.
The ASWCD has no regulatory or policy power and is largely ignored for any input from COG and BoCC.
with the property taxes we pay, and then this guy has the nerve to ask for contribution’s ? really ?. And then we send our taxes to Jacksonville? Good Luck Mr. Boyer
Hi Gene, the ASWCD has no impact on any regulation or policy we all are subjected to from municipal or County boards. Any funding we receive (and we receive no government funding at all) is spent on local conservation education programs.
A government board begging for donations is just wrong.
Your whole approach to educate K-12 students is misguided. The education you need to do is to 7 city and 5 county commissioners. If you cannot convince these 12 to quit paving over soil as fast as they can, in 20 years the K-12 students will not have any soil left in Alachua County to worry about. The cause will be lost. Just admit defeat and close your board.
We may be a government board, but we are unfunded. We have made presentations to several municipalities regarding land conservation but we have no impact on the policies of the cities nor the county. So it takes educating k-12 in the hopes that they will protect lands instead of perpetual developments. It takes citizens that agree with our charter to partner with us to be able to bring conservation awareness to the community.
Ok… So Why ask the residents?
Ask COG for the money? They threw out 500k on the GRU thing?
THEY GOT PLENTY OF MONEY FOR WHAT Y’ALL NEED…
Oh…
Maybe that was too soon 😞
COG has their own issues and we do not want this board under any type of control from COG. While we will accept COG as partners in conservation, we will not push climate alarmism.
How much money do you want to collect? What do you plan to spend it on? Can you post your proposed budget so the public will know?
You gave away your agenda with the “we will not push climate alarmism”. It is obvious the many new members of the SWCB are all Republican operatives out to train the K-12 kids about climate change denial. Now we know who you are.
Will you train the kids to do underwater soil judging after sea level covers Florida?
Drama queen much? There is a difference between “climate change” and soil & water conservation. We will stick to our charter and focus on soil & water conservation. For more answers to your questions you can visit our webpage
